read the ferrari parking thread.
if it's that way for the rich, imagine how insufferable it must be for everyone else.

It makes me sad to agree with this. I grew up here in the 60's and 70's. It is hard to accept that it was that much fun. I am seriously thinking of moving. The memories of what it was and what it will become (it will get worse) are somewhat grinding on the spirit. But rest assured, where ever I go I will assimilate to that state or county or city. The only thing I will bring are the lessons learned from watching my home state kill itself, in other words "don't do this".

There are still alot of nice places to live in CA, that are far away from the grind of LA or even the Bay area...
There is the Central and Northern Coasts..there are the Sierra NV and Trinity Countys....but one still can not escape from the Progressive nature of the regime in Sacramento.

Grew up in LA. Liked it then, but now really don't like it much. San Diego has most of the advantages of LA (weather), but few of its problems (endless flat terrain and lots of traffic). Climate-wise SD has got to be one of the best places on Earth to live.
OH, just one more problem with CA generally that must be acknowledged... The state is a basket-case economically. I won't go into why... wrong forum

I went to college in Eureka (very northern Ca). It's truly a different world up there. There's been much discussion that California should divide into two states, Northern Ca and Southern Ca. I guess a big enough earthquake would take care of that! Maybe East Ca and West Ca?

I have been in California since 1970. I have always loved this state and would be hard pressed to move away from it. Call me optimistic but I am hoping that we can pull out of this tail spin before its too late.

The state needs to file BK.
Split into two, maybe three states. It's pretty messed up. We have more people on Goverment welfare than some states have people. Yet we have more illegal imegrants mowing lawns, building houses, washing cars, cooking, cleaning etc. Things aren't right.

Best days are behind it - what a bunch of marroons.
Southern California is a great place to live - they havn't figured out how to ruin the weather! The politics and Sacramento suck - it needs to fail completely. But survive - California will without a doubt. Let's talk during the next business cycle.

Fruits and nuts, lots worse than anything in that video. Then there are the socialists.
You guys out there can have them. We have nice weather back here, and the beaches in Mexico are a few hours drive away.

As for California being better in the sixties—no doubt. But you can travel back there any time. Just check into one of the retro-hotels in Palm Springs for a week with a case of gin and a few jars of olives and watch Rat-Pack films on the in-house video. Great place to pick up a serious sixties vibe IMO.

if you're willing to spend that kind of money for a weekend, then addis ababa is a nice place too. there are beautiful neighborhoods with italian futurist architecture and a classic bar scene at night. food is decent and the women stunning. but you do not want to live there. living day to day, doing any kind of business in california is just a grind.

You can take point. I usually do better on high places several hundred yards away with someone spotting for me...

We went to the Monterey Historics last August and came back down the coast to visit friends. Thought I would check out the neighborhood I grew up in, LA harbor area. Hadn't been back in years.......It was down-right SCARY. No way did I belong on the street I lived on. I got looks from homies that I knew I did not belong there.
There is an area just next to Long Beach known as the "third world". We have a friend in the LAPD that has told us when they get a call to respond to that area after dark, they wait until the next morning. It's a no-mans-land that cops are rutinely shot at if they go there.

yeah, yeah, welcome to California, now go home
SD is good climate wise. For my money, Palo Alto probably has the best climate, plus it is within a few hours of Yosemite by car, which is the prettiest place there is.
