krazzy azzed lever action dudes-cool sights
as yer well aware of my constant UBER QUEST for spoon perfection, heres a HOT POO place to get some damn nice SIMPLE IDIOT PROOF sights for yer lever action in blue stainless or brass for damn good price:
skinnersights.com thinking this may be the way to go and just shove the zeiss reflex on the m-1 carbine and be done with it. adjustable windage/elevation and made in da U.S.A> kinda hard to screw these up. think about it. the very second you place a scope on a rifle it becomes ....................CHERISHED and BREAKABLE(dont fold spindle mutilate) and these levers are ALWAYS used as truck guns. they get banged around alot. owner stated 80% of the time you do NOT NEED his front sights or anybody elses front sight.
all depends on gun. just may give this juan a try. $62 bucks for peep sights cool. in stainless steel no less. |

Looks like the same basic idea as the XS Sight Systems sights. Hard to tell from the pics, but the XS looks far better made. I have several sets of the XS sights on Marlin lever guns, Model 70's, and a couple .22's. I would highly recommend them.

did they use existing holes drilled and tapped on top of receiver? where did you get them? how much were they? was there some assembly required or was it straight forward no brainer type install? |

I'd like to try this on my 1895CB, but I have to cure the damned thing of the "Marlin Jam" first.

I buy mine directly from the source, XS Sight Systems. I do have one of their Picatinny rails for mounting a scout scope, but it's not currently on any gun. They now make rear sights that will mount to the Picatinny rail, so you can have a scope and backup peeps on the same rifle. The rail mounts to existing holes in the receiver and the rear sight dovetail.
I use their standard sight packages that mount directly to the receiver, without the rail. They all mount to existing scope mount holes; no drilling and tapping required. Here is their website: XS Sight Systems - Rifle Sights

hey thanks jeff will check this out as soon as i calm my credit card down for this last drunken hell raising spoon buying spree. sheesh now i got to shoot em all.
as i mentioned this time is range time for the lil missy. shes never been and it will be an eye opening experience for her. az game and fish does not mess around at ben avery and shes gonna have to understand the rules. once she goes thru the drill she will be fine. its just getting her thru the drill and lil pre shooting mini class they have with video for FNG's. im gonna zero these levers for 100yds period. i dont expect great results although i have heard of some pretty astounding groups off of handloads. we are just gonna feed them hornaday leverrevolutions. best price i found on a bulk buy was budsspoonshop $16 bucks for the .44's a box and $17 for the .357's. my buddy and i are gonna make a massive buy of both calibers so we have new brass for our reloads. i have to keep this simple as (5) spoons will rely on this ammo. model 60-7 1 7/8th barrel smith j frame, model 66 4" barrel smith k frame, and a 629-4 6" barrel N frame .44 mag and the (2) corresponding lever actions. so feeding these, once sighted in and all are making "happy happy joy joy" groups it will make life simpler. so for general all around giggles in the woods/dezert chasing kritters these rounds will work fine here. hell i am 1/2 tempted to take them deer hunting this year. it will let the kids figure out what its like NOT to use a scope and what thats all about. and its cheap and all of these are pretty damn hard to feek up very much. gonna go by my amigo nelson ford and discuss the "marlin jam" with him. been prowling the marlinforums.com and some real useful info there so far. Marlin lever guns are far more accurate than most will give them credit for. My 1895 shoots honest minute of angle with a scope on it and Elmer's old load of either the 400 grain Remington or Speer over 53 grains of 3031. It comes damn close to that with my RCBS .45-400GC cast from wheelweights and lubed with SPG over 50 grains of H322. With the peeps on it and my (now "standard") cast bullet load, I can't do quite that good, but it's still well withing "minute of moose" out to 200 yards.

i have nothing negative about the mfg's you mention but if ya want to see a spoon APPRECIATE unlike boats most cars most planes most motorcycles......................
buy a winchester or a marlin whatevar floats yer boat. back in 1994 winchesters were going for around $325 bucks for a base model. look at them now and marlins will be the same very soon. on the stainless models they are getting top dollar cuz THEY WERE A VERY LIMITED RUN! |

I assume the Rossi "M92" is a copy of the beloved old Winchester '92. The action on those guns is inherently smoother than the Marlin action. The design just lends itself to that, even if cheaply manufactured. Stick with American made lever guns. No one does them better.

In the world of levers, IMO, nothing is as nice as an old Winchester. (pre '64 is it?)
Those things are slick and sweet. |
