Hey, be sure to let us know how your encounter with the surgeon went today.

Please ask him about how much swelling there should be. I'm pretty bulgy.

So, if I could offer some advice, it would be this.... quit moving....

Seriously, the more you stay in one spot, the better. I found that walking around (oh so carefully) wasn't bad but getting into and out of the family barco-lounger was a challenge. I made sure that I had help from the wife, EVERY time I got up, which wasn't often. Did I mention that said lounge chair was less than 10 feet from a bathroom?

Getting into and out of bed was a real bummer, so we made sure there was no need for a trip to the bathroom in the middle of the night, at all costs. Needless to say, I worked on figuring out the least painful way to accomplish this task and involved the wife again, every time. Twisting was the hard part for me. I did everything I could to avoid certain motions.

It will get better...

In my case it was a fair amount. Puffy, would be the best way to decribe it, with a little numbness. And, I went straight past black and blue, to more or less black...

That was the scary part for me, as I had no idea what color was "normal" and what was "that part if your body just dies and is now rotting away."

how long before getting back to normal? Puffy is a good description but I have a definite bulge I'm a little concerned about since it's been 7+ days. Just talked with Dr.'s assistant about seeing him.

The black and purple is a little disconcerting. What was really surprising was the note written with a Sharpie under my bandage: "617-xxx-xxxx, call me, Nurse Cindy." Not sure what that's about.

Normal? Weeks for sure, maybe months. Can't remember, exactly.

Me too but it's written the length of my pecker and says:

" Hello would you like to meet me for coffee? Call me. Registered nurse in charge mary ellen jablonski 25778 end of the world road, pittsburgh pennsylvania, 412-656-7899"

It will probably be close to a month before the swelling goes down significantly, although you'll be up and moving around pretty well a couple of weeks before that. I never had any discoloration on either of mine. Actually for me, one of the worst things about it was getting totally shaved down there (especially by an ugly old lady). My sack would stick to my legs for a couple of weeks because of that. I hated it although my wife thought it was nice.

they shaved me after I was knocked out. It saved a lot of embarrassment. That was pretty thoughtful of them. I am purple down there. the swelling has gone down quite a bit, but I have been using ice. Today it is not so bad. I will sit outside today and maybe sand on my bass. I can handle that.

went for my follow up today. he was satisfied with both incisions healing well. I asked him why it hurt so much on one side and not on the other. He explained that the right side was more of a burst, tearing the muscles around the site. So it has double screen and as he put it, many more stitches internally than the left side. So the stretching pain I get is not me being a whimp it really had a lot more damage. He told me to keep moving within reason, not drive any long distance, and take it easy until we meet again in two weeks. So I took that as all is well.

No one gets a nut cut off. Actually, the reason men have the tendency to have an inguinla hernia is that as an embryo the testicles descend through the muscle mass at the groin leaving a flaw that allows an opening during a strain in the area.

That is what get repaired and that is why a good sew up job will work. Now, I'm not a surgeon, I'm a former surgeons' patient. (Why does that word have the 2 meanings that it does?)

I have reason to believe that my first doctor/surgeon criss-crossed a few tendons to repair the hernia. Sure, it was a mutha to endure for 2 weeks, but if I had to do it again, I'd take his method.

Hernia= any breach in the muscular structure in the body that normally contains other tissue.

I always liked steve. I used to run into him all the time and the dave white swaps. I doubt he would remember me after i've been gone for 4 years. He may remember my silver 70 S Targa though.

Milt, the hospital I was referring to has a bad habit of cutting off the wrong thing in the O.R.

I'm going to see a surgeon on Friday.
