problem is that it will pinch your intestine like a kink in a garden hose. when that happens it cuts off the blood flow and that section of the intestine dies. necrosis. You might be wearing a bag for a while. Best case is they go in cut out the dead crap and then hook the two good ends back together. Spelled "hospital stay". They did me out patient, and as miserable as I may be right now, I'm at home being miserable.

Glad to hear you are up and around, that's great! and sticks are great for whacking people, so you've got that going for you. Resting, gentle moving about to keep flexible, during this week and you should be fine for Sunday. I'll be around. ![]() I've been pretty much in bed for 2 days, swelling is waaay down, still hurts like hell, ibuprofen is really not enough (though glad I got off the percoset fast), but the incision looks really good and I think I'll be OK. Everything seems to be functioning fully too. Hardest part is being idle. I've never been idle. Driving me crazy.

Shaun, I missed this earlier. Hope you're doing OK, and from what I do know of you, it must be driving you crazy just doing nothing. All the best.

Congrats to both of you on getting it behind you. It will be a distant memory someday. Just think of that when you are tired of lying around. Plus you'll never have to have that done again. Comfortable and speedy recover to you.

I,m 60 & had a hernia operation in Jan. Was in hospital overnight & back at work in 3 weeks. I work in the machine shop at our plant & still got help picking up & moving heavy & awkward stuff for a while.
Most of the surgeons nowadays do a little slices & pull mesh through to reinforce your muscles. If you don't have a streneous job, you'll be back to work in a week. But if you didn't have a strenous job you probably wouldn't have a hernia problem. Good luck, spend plenty of time on Pelican forums during your recovery. edit: OOps, see you already been cut. Glad you made it through.

I had a single done years ago at the Shouldice Clinic. It was a hernia holiday.
Walked off the operating table and was practicing putting and playing pool (right at the clinic) by that evening. People come from all over the world to Shouldice. There was a guy from Australia (plus two Amish dudes) there when I had mine done. Back to work in one week. Shouldice Hospital Ltd.

I still have pain particularity on the side that has been done twice. Perhaps from the scar tissue? It is one of those things that IF I had known, I could have made a more informed decision on the type of repair that was performed.

Thanks Hugh, yeah, just sitting around sucks, and I can't even do design work, just not in the right mindset and have his pinching pain down lower from the incision which loosk really good. LMK when you are back in town, would love to get together for dinner again.

Glad you have the same pinching pain I do. I was worried. I was dong fine earlier today. Got up around 4 a.m. and then went back to bed. The damn cat jumped up on the bed when I was sound asleep and landed right on my right incision. I couldn't help but yell out loud. Woke the dog, the wife and maybe a neighbor. So I took a step back with that one. Damn cat gets locked out tonight.

I trust you are putting plenty of ice on that thing. Put some on there right now, it will make it feel better, I promise.
Worst thing I ever smelled is necrotic bowel. Keep in mind I have cut off plenty of gangrenous pieces of people. Think about the nastiest rotten meat you ever have been unfortunate enough to get the smell of up your snout. Now multiply that by 10 or 20. Paul, you best get that thing checked out. I can pretty much guarantee you that chicks don't dig colostomy bags.

She's no chick. She's my wife. We're going on 20 years together so she can take it.

For you guys that have done this, how about cycling? I'm a pretty avid bike rider and I wonder what that bicycle seat would feel like after your all healed up.

30km 3-4 times a week with my trusty old MB, no shocks, just a gel seat. Half and half... roads and rough trails. Never bothers me.
