It looks like Subaru increased the size of their models. A guy down the street's got an older model, which looks like a large 90's Civic.
Did you take that nice pic of the mountain road? |

yup - used a new cheapo Sony pocket camera
the '09 has 3" longer sheelbase than the 0xx to '08 models and is larger ins a few other ways also '09 has better R. susp. and all of them now have the ESC Many of the problems in Ye Old Outback that I thought were endemic to Subarus are not present in this one: throbbing engine that almost shook the car at idle, really clunky suspension, etc. So I guess it was just 194,000 miles on the old car. I am missing one thing tho -- the pull out cupholder on the dash is gone. F'er also has a rear bumper ht. that the dawg has to jump up on of 25.25" which is worse than the Outback (was 24"), So the geriatric Golden Retriever is a bit perturbed about it - hope she figures it out since boosting a dog into the back is not my idea of fun |

Big old dogs like the pull-out ramp.
That thing has amazing clearance, but you should have charged the lesser(weaker) following vehicles $ for blazing the trail for them .

We got a couple rounds of heavy 4-6" snow in Mich tonight. Been shoveling more than I'd wish. Ran the snowblower down to the end of the blocks a couple of times. Old lady neighbor thanked me. I was feeling a bit socialist, or mabye a bit human.
Funny Subaru blizzard incident: -On the drive back, there was someone in the right lane that had a very difficult time staying on the narrow plowed track. The streets were a mess. Left lane, right lane, both were the same. Couldn't see anything. -That lead car was followed by a crown vic taxi which kept it's distance. I hod way, way back to let them figure out if the road was 1 or 2 lane. I didn't care. Some cars are total crap in snow. At least everybodys moving. This was a blizzard. -Then some jerk(probably from out of state) comes up from behind and lays on its horn. "Move out of my way", he says. "I'm very important, and I'm in a hurry". -This is an early sunday night. -I stay the course behind the other two and just ignore him. The drifts on the road were at least 6" deep. Easy enough to spin out and cause major trouble. -Slow and easy. Everybody gets there. I surmize the jerk would prefer that result rather than a punch to his knucklehead skull. -I wait for the clear. No need to push on a curve. The lead car finds it's track and the cab slowly moves in behind it to follow. Left lane is now open with no oncomming traffic. Who would be stupid enough to drive in this weather anyway? -I pull forward gradually until clear of the nearbye moving vehicles. At any point in this I maintain the ability to avoid, stop and/or pull over and help. -Mr-agressive-honking-jerk behind me still wants to push a bad situation into worse. Mr. Ego. -Ooops. -In less than a few blocks of an empty straightaway his headlights dissapear. -Bu-bye Mr. Ego. -Guess he wasn't in a hurry after all, or really all that important. He just wanted to make himself important. -He thought wrong. -He didn't have Subaru power. |

BTW - somewhere on youtube I've seen a traction test up a hill comparing a Subaru with a Toyota RAV-4 - the Sube all the time AWD works a lot better
no idea if the electronic wheel slip systems are better now -------------------------------------------- what I really want is a sports car that changes into a logging skidder... |

it isn't accurate around here - Subes are ubiquitous - and for obvious functional reasons

My wife bought a 2011 Outback in December and really likes it. She say's even more than the BMW 530i she traded in on it. It's a bit underpowered in my opinion but it's roomy and a very functional car. It's been over two months and she hasn't brought any girls home yet.... I'm still waiting on all the lesbo's to show up.

Used Subies in Oregon, Maine, CO keep value.
Shoot, isn't it the 'Official State Car or Maine'? Buy a used one in TX or AZ... MUCH less expensive. Seems like 1 of 5 cars here are either Outbacks or Foresters. Last edited by tcar; 02-25-2011 at 07:36 PM.. |

actually, the two I was looking at came from Colo. - they were rental fleet vehicles that the dealers here buy up
with enuff time to do it in, and time to wait &/or travel, there were definitely ways to pay less than I did, but when ya git old and you have some bucks to deploy sometimes you just pull the trigger. |

my neighbor had one of those turbo little Subaru Outbacks. Very fun little car with a revy motor.
But to be sure, some of the Subies are strongly associated with lesbians. I don't mean that in a bad way. My auntie is openly lesbian. Anyway I thought the tag "Lesbaru" was actually common in their vernacular. It is what it is. |

I've been "strongly associated" with lesbians, and NOT in a bad way.

I rented a Subie small SUV in Portland... may have been a Forester... I liked it a LOT.
Would buy one in a minute... but I'm a sissy city boy and don't need all that fancy ground clearance and AWD for the two weeks of rain we get down here in El Lay.
