I agree that Rush -is- an amazing band and would nail it, but I don't think they span enough demographic to do what the superbowl Half Time Show needs to.

Not that BEP does, but chalk that up to the producers trying to 'hippen it up.'

I think they slipped The Who in there last year, because they nailed the 40-up white male crowd but they also got a little bit of the "pop culture" TV-watcher crowd because of the Who-CSI-CBS connection.

Yep! She's got the whole "wail all around the note, but don't actually hit the note" soul singer technique that is extremely abrasive, especially to those who want to hear the singer hit the notes.

Rush is a little too "cerebral" for the Stupor Bowl crowd....

Were they targeting a large demographic with Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson? Do you know any straight man who owns a single CD of theirs or has any of their songs in his iPod? I'd never heard the BEP before, but just looking at the still shots of them, I'm guessing their music would be effective in terrorist interrogations. I am a HUGE WHO fan, but they couldn't even make me watch the Super Bowl because I just couldn't care less about sitting in front of the tv for four hours to watch what is really just seven minutes of game action.

I don't think Rush would be that appropriate a band for the occasion and Tom Sawyer is my least favorite song of theirs. But given the several fiascos that have been the halftime shows, Rush is a solid bet. They're the kind of band you don't even have to like to enjoy watching live and you know 110% they're going to crush it.

Did you see the little Spinal Tap looking "Stone Henge" on the keyboard?

That's exactly how I felt about the Who, until I watched it. And then it was okay, but a little Ho-Hummy. The big drama about it was that Pete's shirt came 'un-tucked'.

I don't think Rush "needs" to do it, honestly.

PS I have some Timberlake in my iTunes, and for that genre it's of a very high quality, and I know what I'm talking about.

Good gawd, where's the imagination? How about King Crimson, Wire or Tangerine Dream? I'd even go for The Cure. You want rowdy/raunchy? How about Afghan Whigs? Or a college scene-type halftime: The Pixies?

If the SB is going to resurrect the musical dead, bring some style to it.

What's next? This guy?

Wonder if Eddie here can even pluck a string...

I do not care for BEP but I thought Fergie could actually sing. That sucked! So did the National Anthem. You'd think that with all that money coming in they could get some 'good' talent. It was a waste of time. Eventually it'll be more about commercials than the game or half time show. It's already getting there..

I understand what you mean, and I enjoy your taste in tunes, but your comment shows a fundamental misunderstanding of what the job of finding the SB entertainment entails.

It's like: "Pick a color that the entire game must be shown in."

And you just picked : "the color invisible, with occasional pink polka-dots randomly shooting across the screen about once every 20 seconds."

she said she was nervous, thats the reason I suggested the older bands that DON'T have that problem. Can you imagine how much effort and control Gene Simmons would put into that show...

...which is why I reserve SB halftime for beer and Starbuck runs. I can't be bothered with crap entertainment during the last F-ball game of the year.
