Bought my first suit
I just bought my first suit recently for a business trip. Went into a Perry Ellis outlet store and got a nice suit for $140 for the jacket, pants and tie.
Got to say, I really like the feeling a sharp suit makes you feel. It's even better that I paid for less than the jacket's retail price. I also got Florsheims for $39. And a pair of Bass shoes for $29. Outlet stores rock! (I need another sale so I can get another one) |

A suit is great but the single best piece of a business men's apparel is a simple black sport coat. Buy one. Trust me.

Back in the day my mother used to say "you're going to be buried in a suit, so you might as well get used to it."

![]() Me, I have my trusted conference-set. Had it for years. My colleagues in other parts of Sweden and even some centers in Europe that I meet regularly probably think I have several sets of the same suit, which I don´t. ![]()

I own one tie (a Jerry Garcia), one nice shirt, and one nice pair of pants. Never need a suit, never applied for a job that required wearing a tie beyond the first interview.
I love the fact that my work clothes are shorts and a t-shirt, or jeans and a t-shirt. Once every 18 months or so, I'll mess with my bosses mind by wearing the "fancy get up" to work...

I have about 20 total but only 5 fit me since I lost weight... and I wear them all the time for work or when I go out. Nothing like a good suit.
Also... People call you sir a lot when you wear a suit. ![]()

I last wore a suit for traffic court in April, but the cop didn't show and I won. Before that it was probably close to three years ago that I last wore a suit.

I did wear slacks and dress shirts for my meetings in LA and SD last week. But at home I wear boxer shorts and a t-shirt when I work. That's what I call a real job.

![]() I had to go with a suit because I was meeting people that we work with (HBO, Golden Boy Promotions, Mayweather Promotions, etc.). As you can see, I decided not to wear the tie. Although, I do like wearing a tie. |

Ah, suits. For about 15 years, they were an important part of my life. I wore them 5 days a week, 12 hours a day. And, you know, they were fun. There was the snug European suit stage. Lots of accessories with those, cufflinks, collarstay, vests. Then there was a double breasted phase. Sharp, baby. Then the serious phase, charcoal pinstripes from Brooks Brothers. Finally I started having all my suits custom made from fabric samples. Suspender buttons, extra pants, hidden pockets. Career change, and instantly no more suits. I've worn a suit maybe 10X in 12 years.
I was going through the closet, getting rid of clothes that don't fit, are worn out, ugly, or haven't been worn in years. Came across a bunch of my old suits. The later ones need to be taken in. I can wear the older ones from 25+ years ago, the pants are maybe 1" snugger than ideal. I guess there'll never be a reason for me to buy another suit. Too bad, they really were kind of fun. One piece of advice. Buy a traditional, businessman or lawyers' two-piece single-vent suit. Not a three-button short-lapel flap-ass hipster thing. In a serious color and fabric, meaning dark gray, navy, charcoal, or black, subtle pinstripes or windowpanes, 100% wool, and lined unless you live in the tropics. Get that real man's serious suit. With serious shirts, ties, and shoes. Then you can get the more light-hearted variations. But you want to be ready for interviews, business dinners, and deaths. Used to keep about 3 on hand when you always wore a suit to weddings and funerals. Now, just the black one. If I can wear a sport coat, I do. Mostly with a tie. If I'm not going to wear a tie, I wear a sweater under the coat or no coat.
I don't do open collars with coats. I hate tee shirts with sport coats. The reason is something should always be above the coat collar. |

In my humble and obviously slanted perspective, I believe that a man should have a suit. At least one, fitted just for him.
A man with good carriage, in a well fitted suit, is simply devestating... ![]() angela

I agree about the colors, the one I got is black with subtle pinstripes and a single vent. I don't buy very bold colors or Paisley ties (looks like an old fart kind of thing). I like patterned ties and subtle pinstripe shirts. I also don't think the double breasted jackets look all that great on me. I don't really need it for work since I work behind the scenes. But I find it feels nice to wear, IMO. |
