Before watching the first Bladerunner movie, read "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" by Philip K. Dick. It's a sci-fi classic that is the inspiration for the movies. It is an excellent book and will give you a deeper insight into the story.

I saw it tonight with my son and his GF. Good movie (note I didn't write great) and I was so looking forward to it.
It was long and that was OK but the full on violence seemed a bit excessive and unnecessary. The story was interesting & it was told well but this is a fan movie IMO.

I don't want to put anyone off seeing it. It's definitely worth the price of the ticket but don't go there expecting something as iconic as the original.

Finally saw 2049 last night. I thought it was OK but not great. It was a tad long but the length maintained the pace of the movie (which is slow). I did think the amount and type of violence was a bit overdone and not in keeping with the original. I walked away with more questions about the time between the two movies than answers.

A bit too much violence yes. I thought the soundtrack was great and enjoyed the movie overall. I'll use "Her eyes were green" whenever something doesn't go quite right for awhile.

You're right, the original was violent but this one goes to the next level.

One scene is particularly memorable. A morgue attendant get's the back of his head bashed in by Luv (Sylvia Hoeks). One super fast blow and he's down. You get a brief glimpse of the aftermath. Full blood shot eyes, broken neck and a severally dislocated jaw. The point of the scene was to show how dangerous replicants are and it certainly did that but it was like something from a horror movie.

So you're saying the film is not exactly a ringing endorsement of AI?

She made the movie for me. I’ve come to the conclusion that the Dutch make the best replicants.

It's funny, i actually looked away from the screen for 1/2 a second for some reason, right as that happened. I look back, and there is angry killer chick and some dude who was on the ground and very mushy. I said to myself that I'll have to rewatch the movie just to see what exactly she did to him, I assumed he had a weapon to do that kind of damage...

I think that this movie was excellent; the best sequel to any film ever.

A couple of things I see that differ with a few of the comments above:
1. K had memories because he was born, he lived as a child, they aren’t implanted memories they were real.
2. It’s an assumption that K is dead at the end, there’s no confirmation and no doves flying.

Some things worth mentioning that make this movie great.
1. The revelation that Tyrell created replicates that could reproduce and that he knew it; it wasn’t a mistake.
2. Not only are replicates are stronger, smarter than “normal” humans, but their offspring are as well.

K was born? The other cops called him a "skin job."

I also didn't think K was "born"...

I think that was what the whole movie was about, him discovering that he was born and had a twin sister, and deckerd was their father.

Remember when he was doing the research on the computer and discovered twins identical DNA? Their date of birth was the same date that was carved on his wooden horse toy? The same date carved into the roots of the tree, where the remains of Rachel were found.

Am I the only one that put that together?

Like a Star Wars matrix mash up.
