Honkey Tonk Samuri by Joe E. Lansdale. published Feb 16.
I didn't know this when I picked it off the 'new arrivals' shelf at the library, but it's one of the 'Hap and Leonard' books currently running as a series on the Sundance channel. Nice mid-Texas local color. (Whoever cast the two actors in that series should re-read the books,) Eruption - The Untold Story of Mount St. Helens. By Steve Olsen. published Mar 2016. Fact filled, and interesting. Non-fiction that reads like a novel. Not your typical tree-hugging commentary of the environmental woes and abuses in the PNW. Bill K

I get books out of the local library on my tablet........Sometimes, I have to wait in line for what I want. Waiting for 2 now that were recommended above (Thanks SeaHawk and Joe Bob).
When I wait, I always return to this old thread of Boating guys on Dating Sites....376 pages and going strong. Blue Chip is an active guy for sure. Adventures in Online Dating - The Hull Truth - Boating and Fishing Forum

Antoine de Saint-Exupery is one interesting cat - Thanks - Wind, Sand, and Stars just made my 'must read' list. Guess I'll be ordering the paperback version from scamazon with its inflated Canadian prices.
Cheers JB

The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo is sweeping through family & friends at the moment.Though it seems to be written for the urban apartment dweller there is a lot of useful perspective & systems presented. I don't want to be a museum curator or swimming in things that I no longer want, so this is timely.

Charlie Hayes, the ex Ferrari NART race driver has an interesting book on Amazon
Turns out do to health issues he may only be around for a little while longer. Sales go to help with his health care expenses. He'd appreciate help spreading the word about the book go to Amazon and search Faster Faster by Charlie Hayes http://www.amazon.com/Fast-Faster-Story-Chargin-Charlie/dp/1530785367?ie=UTF8&keywords=hayes+fast+&+faster&qid=1459692781&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1 "Being – Awake And Alive: Over the winter Gene Crowe and I redesigned the bodywork and created an aerodynamic "wedge shape" - to make downforce and hopefully make the car stick better in the corners. The season started with a huge thrill - we were invited to participate in the filming of a major motion picture - "Winning" - starring Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward (Paul's wife) and Robert Wagner. NEAT people! - Newman and I hit it off right away and he elected to drive my racecar for the road racing parts of the movie. And he arranged a bit part for me - which made me some money and was great fun. Paul is a very real, very warm and friendly guy - very easy to be with. No star-like ego at all - which was very refreshing. And as it turned out he was a natural - he later became a fine driver and won many races. Then we began our actual racing season - and had our ups and downs - but we were feeling good about our chances for a few wins as we tweaked the car and got faster bit-by-bit. But Then . . . It was qualifying for the 1968 “Can-Am,” the Canadian American Challenge Cup. This round was at Mosport Park, near Toronto. My all time favorite racetrack. Up hill and down, fast sweeping off camber bends. A racer’s Paradise. We’re being timed, for the best one lap of balls to the wall racing against the clock- trying to set a single hot lap that the others guys can’t match. The racecar is working better than it ever has and I am stoked. This was the happiest moment of my life. Superstar Peter Revson was there that day driving a factory McLaren, as was Bruce McLaren himself..."

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, by Rebecca Skloot.
A fascinating true story of how (biological) cell culture was perfected using an unwitting subject's cancerous (but immortal) cells.

Anybody have a good Battle of the Bulge history book recommendation? Looking for a decent historical account - something more than just the NUTS story.

Got a book from Chapters the other day....
It was recommended in our Edmonton Journal. It is written by Jim Lynch and is called Before the Wind. It is set in Olympia Washington and the Seattle area. Also Victoria BC. Easy reading, humorous and hard to put down. It is mostly about sailing and would appeal to sailors and non sailors. Highly recommended.

Black Elk Speaks by John G. Neihardt.
This book has been around since 1932 and I'm just getting around to it. Much more than the typical Indian tribal history lesson. Bill K (mentioned/referenced in James Lee Burke's Light of the World.)

This is a very interesting story of the attempted murder Bob Marley, the drug trade in Jamaica, and the expansion of cartels into America.
https://www.amazon.ca/Brief-History-Seven-Killings-Novel/dp/159448600X Well written and has won several prestigious awards.

Just finished Shogun, by James Clavel. What a slog. Everyone has two names, constant digressions, hard to keep up with what's happening. If it's descriptions of Japanese culture are accurate it was worth it. If...

Another beautifully crafted novel by David Guterson - The Other - well worth the time and effort to get through it. Highly rewarding.
The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath - (50th Anniversary edition) Fascinating first hand account of a submersion into, and out of, mental illness. Anybody else read Black Elk Speaks ? Did not meet all the hype surrounding the medicine man's mysticism. - Did I miss something? Bill K
