If the odds are 176 million:1 and the jackpot is $500+ million, what's to stop someone from buying one of every ticket to guarantee a win? As long as another number doesn't hit, you'll come out a winner. Though I suppose those with $176 mil disposable dollars don't really need to play the lottery.

A bunch of folks n my office put $5 Ina pool. Im keeping my $5. I told them I'm doing my part to try to increase their odds (murphy's law on me). Good luck to them, but it will suck if they do win. Won't bother me at all if they don't (odds are really good).

some guys in Australia did that a few years ago. Invested xx million and won xxx million or some such. now there are rules preventing that.

Buying a ticket allows you to dream until the draw.

I used to buy but figured it was futile. Even at a buck a week it adds up. I know for sure I'll win $52 a year if I don't play.
