My wife and I have been fostering a dog the last few weeks, which saved her from being euthanized. We called her Bingo. Very clever dog, very nimble and quick too. She's roughly 12 kgs and shouldn't get much bigger. Roughly a year old, she was found wandering with her brother who was also fostered. Had a prospective family meet her yesterday so looking good for adoption.

and this is her brother

This is our first time fostering and have really loved it, as well as support from the dog rescue group that was looking for foster families, the vets and our local dog daycare/behaviourist who helped us introduce her to our dogs.

My best girl Stella passed, overnight Saturday just 2 months shy of her 14th birthday. She had been having stomach issues for the last 6 months and we all knew it would not end well. She was a special dog. We called her “the dipper” because of the way she would bow her head when you bent to pet her on the head. When I brought her home she fit in the palms of my hands. For her first 9 years while my wife and I were together she faithfully patrolled the several acres of woods loaded with every animal indigenous to our area. We never had to walk her on a leash because she listed so well. The last 5 years she did double duty. I have 50/50 custody of my son and Stella would go wherever AJ was.

She had a seizure on Monday at my ex’s place and she took her to the vet. The vet could not give us any conclusive answers but I had that feeling the rest of the time we got was borrowed time. Aj and my wife went to Baltimore for the Holiday so from Tuesday till the end Stella and I were together. She really looked like herself for a couple days. She was fighting the good fight. Aj came home Saturday evening and at that point I could see her hurting. I knew something was up because Friday she slept right up by my head and she’s always slept by my feet. Aj and I took her to the hospital Saturday night, she could not stand up. She had another seizure there. We put her on an IV to give her fluids but I could see she was not coming back from this one. She passed quietly overnight.

My folks live on a golf course not far from us. Stella loved it there. The back of their home faces south and its all glass. She would lay in the sun there, go for long walks on the golf course and my mother would make her special meals. I am having her cremated and I’ll spread her ashes on her favorite hill at the same place my childhood dog of 17 years Ginger’s ashes are.

Thanks for listening. Sincerely,
Howard

Hello Howard....thanks for sharing that wonderful tribute and photos of your baby, Stella with us. I'm so very sorry for your loss. She had a great life and knew she was loved. Cherish the good memories you have of "The Dipper' - you will see her again one day along with your Ginger, I'm sure of that.

Thanks also for your kind post, Bugs - glad Sir Henry is feeling better - please give him a belly pat or three from all of us.....

Carolina ACD Rescue & Rebound's 2016 Forever Home Calendars are now available!

https://squareup.com/market/carolina-acd-rescue-and-rebound/forever-home-calendar

Our full-color, vertical wall calendars are unique compared to most calendars (that staple in the middle and fold to 11" x 8.5") as we use a full 11" x 17" sheet then wir-o bind it at the top so each month features an extra-large and beautiful 11" x 11" photo of one of our rescued ACDs! The calendar is 13 total pages - cover plus January through December 2016 - and includes most holidays.

Carolina ACD R&R rescues Australian Cattle Dogs in North & South Carolina and surrounding states. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of our calendars goes directly to the care of the dogs we rescue - vetting, medication, monthly preventatives, etc. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, these funds allow us to continue to rescue and rehome this wonderful breed.

NOTE: Calendars will be delivered to us on Dec 4th. Orders placed prior to that will ship on December 7th!

Thank you!

Only way I'm getting work done around the house is with this guy crated. I sat down to pull cover plates and tape and he crawled in my lap for a nap. He knows who rescued him, never gets far from me. We've got to work with him this weekend as he's supposed to be Thuys dog and if I'm around he ignores her!

And who doesn't love a belly rub?

Haha. I do...

I think the big part of it is I've been at home all week working with him, rubbing on him, and giving treats for good behavior. We will make sure he spends all weekend with her and she does the same. He will get there!

Well, my foster dog Tundra decided that toys were food and ate a 2" chunk of rubber ball which lodged in his intestine and had to be surgically removed.

Surgery was on Thursday and went great, he's home now and is pretty much back to normal.

Complicating everything is that he is paralyzed and incontinent, so the surgery sight is normally where I push to express his bladder, so a catheter and bag are attached.

Sad but a warm gesture and compassion.
source: Russia Gives France a Puppy Following Death of Police Dog During Paris Attacks - ABC News

A German shepherd puppy was given to the French police from Russia today, in an official handover ceremony at the French Embassy in Moscow as an act of solidarity following the terrorist attacks in Paris last month.

The new police dog, Dobrynya, is replacing the fallen seven-year-old Belgian shepherd, Diesel.

The K-9 died during an apartment raid of the alleged mastermind behind the Paris attacks, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, in November, ABC affiliate WABC reported.

The Embassy tweeted photos and video of the the event, where French Ambassador Jean-Maurice Ripert said, the puppy is a "living symbol of the strong ties of friendship and cooperation" between France and Russia. The newest member of the French police force is named after Dobrynya Nikitich, a heroic knight from Russian folk legend.

Ripert received Dobrynya from Russia's Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Igor Zubov at 5 P.M. in Moscow, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs website.

Ripert said, both countries were "victims of the same terrorist actions," according to the French Embassy, calling the gift of Dobrynya a "touching gesture."
