We had to say goodbye to Marcus on Saturday. My buddy of 12-1/2 years. Diagnosed with cancer last November, the vet was amazed how long he fought it off.

Dad,

My condolences for Marcus's passing. Never seems to be enough time. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear that Dad. But it sounds like you gave him a very good life.

He was hanging out with me while I was stripping the car to make a spec boxster.

No matter what door I opened when we were going for a ride, he would jump into the driver’s seat.

Thanks guys. I don’t want to derail, post the happy pics.

Dad,
Not to worry about any of us (at least I think I speak for most here) being put off about your sharing with us. I think quite the contrary.
This place helped so much when Daisy died, it matters to us all.
I hope your grief is quickly replaced with the thousands if not millions of happy Marcus Memories.

Dan

Looks like a Wheaton Terrier. Best dog I ever had was a Wheaton Terrier mix. Lost her to cancer too.

Saw this cute little Parson Russell terrier today. Very similar to a Jack Russell terrier.

Interesting. We have had a lot of Jack's. The latest, Perry, is a rescue that is 11. We'll look into Parson's.

Ok, pics of Dottie because I don't have grand-kids!

From an hour ago, a little chilly and dreary:

Stuffed dog toys last about 30 to 40 minutes around here. Two border collies in the house.
I may as well just hand them a twenty and let them shred that...
Nice looking pup, Gogar.

Today I learned:

The dogs like me better than food. Spent the night at the hospital, got home at 0630, as my wife was feeding the dogs. She puts beef bouillon on their food, which they like. They both immediately lost interest in breakfast and were all over me. I guess maybe they weren't hungry.

They weren't. Cute story, though.

I think the yellow stuff below is pollen. If not, I'll be in the next Marvel movie with my side kick:

Tobra 04-13-2022 05:17 PM

That is pollen, are there a lot of pine trees nearby?

They were hungry enough to pester the wife for an hour an a half before she fed them, but that is maybe because they get up at 0500 most days.

The younger dog was a little freaked out, first time I did not come home at night since we had him.

john70t 04-13-2022 05:24 PM

Trees will emit pollen to induce local rainfall.

I was kidding.

Our two won’t eat until my wife gets home...they just seem to know when she’ll be gone for the night and let me feed them.

Dogs are great.

Tobra 04-13-2022 08:12 PM

I know you were kidding. I been hit in the head pretty hard, but not that many times.

Our pit will wait until my wife tells him he can eat. She walked away and forgot to tell him okay one time. He sat there and drooled until she came back ten minutes later. First time she went to see her folks after we got him, he ate the morning she left, then didn't eat for two days.

I pity the fool that breaks into the house if my wife is in there with those dogs. Can you imagine the mess when you pulled them off?

John, you say some whacky stuff

john70t 04-14-2022 05:10 AM

I aint the Lorax but believe it's true

Now, researchers from the University of Michigan and Texas A&M suggest that these pesky particles could be playing a more productive role. Their study in Geophysical Research Letters, a journal of the American Geophysical Union, suggests pollen grains released by trees may make it rain.

Baz 05-05-2022 09:01 AM

Had to say goodbye to the love of my life and best friend 1 month ago today. Loved her dearly. Was the hardest worst experience ever - same as with Billabong 2 years ago (Lymphoma).

I held her the entire time...told her I loved her...and it would be OK. I buried her in the front yard wrapped in her favorite blanket when I got home.

She would have turned 17 this month. I raised her from an 8 week old puppy....

well that sucks

Bill Douglas 05-05-2022 11:47 AM

Sorry to hear that Baz. It sure hurts.

But you gave her the best life she could have had.

Danimal16 05-05-2022 11:56 AM

Gee Baz, I am so sorry for your loss. She was always an adventure, some of us really enjoyed it from far away. She is certainly missed.

Baz, very sorry to hear of your loss. The bonds between human and animal are very strong

Seahawk 05-05-2022 12:27 PM

Baz, for you and your pup, one of the great love songs. You all knew, they sing this to you, Baz:

<iframe width="1175" height="400" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/o9gK2fOq4MY" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This Must Be The Place

Home is where I want to be
Pick me up and turn me around
I feel numb, born with a weak heart
I guess I must be having fun

The less we say about it the better
Make it up as we go along
Feet on the ground, head in the sky
It's okay, I know nothing's wrong, nothing

Oh! I got plenty of time
Oh! You got light in your eyes
And you're standing here beside me
I love the passing of time
Never for money, always for love
Cover up and say goodnight, say goodnight

Home, is where I want to be
But I guess I'm already there
I come home, she lifted up her wings
I guess that this must be the place

I can't tell one from the other
I find you, or you find me?
There was a time before we were born
If someone asks, this is where I'll be, where I'll be oh!

We drift in and out
Oh! Sing into my mouth
Out of all those kinds of people
You got a face with a view

I'm just an animal looking for a home and
Share the same space for a minute or two
And you love me till my heart stops
Love me till I'm dead

Eyes that light up
Eyes look through you
Cover up the blank spots
Hit me on the head I got ooh!

syncroid 05-05-2022 12:44 PM

Oh Man! I am sorry Baz.

gordner 05-05-2022 01:48 PM

It is always so hard when the bill finally comes due for all the happiness your pup gave you through his life.....So goddamned hard to say goodbye.

asphaltgambler 05-05-2022 02:26 PM

Evans, Marv 05-05-2022 02:31 PM

OMG Baz! So sorry to hear the terrible news. It goes without saying your heart is breaking. I don't think another dog (dogs) in the history of dogs received more love.

Baz 05-05-2022 03:13 PM

Thanks all for your kindness. It took me a month before I could even post about losing my baby because I was still trying to process everything. I don't have to tell anyone here how hard a situation it is when you have make that decision.

Winkipop is the second Heeler I lost. I never posted about losing Billabong 2 years ago.

I'll always be grateful for the best 15-17 years a human could ever hope for with my girls by my side - through thick and thin. Now when I come home - there's no one waiting for me - and I'm still not used to that. Same as when I leave the house. No one to say goodbye to as I did all those years.

Winkipop came into my life in '05. The very next year we adopted Billabong - so Winkipop had a sister. That lasted until 2020 when Lymphoma took Billabong away. And now they are both reunited in puppy heaven.

Don't ever let anyone tell you it's a bad idea to have more than one dog. Getting Billabong was the best decision of my life!

Thank you again for the love, guys.....hugs and belly rubs to your babies.....

Sorry for your loss Baz. We lost our boy back in March, I posted about it a few pages ago.

We decided to foster a pup, Fidget:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1651791504.jpg

Ended up being a great match, and last week we formally turned it into an adoption.

Thanks, Dad. I remember your post about little Marcus. They are such brave little ones, aren't they? So very humbling.

CONGRATS on your new rescue! He or she? Either way I love the name "Fidget". Great photo! Looks like some Heeler DNA in there....oh boy......:p
