She was probably not very well socialized when she was young.

It's just my opinion, but dog parks aren't the greatest place for a dog. It's a good place for a dog to catch another dog's disease/parasites or for a dog to get in a fight with another dog that is not well socialized.
Good points. I like the park for the exercise factor, but I get what you are saying. She loves people but is a bit of a wild card around other dogs. She's a jumper and her brakes don't work great so we need to work on that.

My son found her at what the vet thought was about 9 months old, no known history prior. Texas is unfortunately a dumping ground of sorts for dogs. Lot's of military at his base will pick up and move and abandon their animals. Shelters there are shipping dogs to the PNW and other areas to get adopted out.

Our black and tan reclamation project following a coyote attack. Three weeks in, one leg down, HE IS WALKING AGAIN!! Granted, he's still missing 25% of the skin on his two bandaged legs but it's healing at a phenomenal rate.

If we didn't own a vet clinic the bill would be nearing $20,000. He has had hyperbaric chamber visits, daily laser therapy and daily cleaning, suturing and bandaging.

Ah man, I'm glad he has you to take care of him after a traumatic event like that. Glad he is on the mend too.

How did it all transpire? I've always been worried about that with our rescue schnauzer and cats in our area. He would be whisked away before I could get rounds down range so I just hope it never happens. That's why he gets escorted at night so he can do his biz before bedtime.

Cheers

He supposedly walked up to a house north of us & was taken care of for "a few days" by the couple. I doubt his origin story because his wounds were so severe that any realistic person would have rushed him to the vet as soon as they saw them- his missing leg had over 6" of exposed bone and the other two had exposed bone and mucho necrotic tissue. Our guess is that he was a hunting dog who got the snot torn out of him, his owners knew that they could not afford the accompanying vet bills and so they surrendered him under the guise of him being a stray. Either way, they did take him in & surrended him so although his condition was horrendous when he was finally seen at least they didn't just let him die- which seemed to be where he was headed for his first week.

The wounds and bite marks suggest coyote or a pack of large wild dogs, but since he is a black and tan I am inclined to believe it was coyotes due to their usually beng found in the woods. (though not always these days!)

(i think) Cesar says it's fear/anxiety behavior.
Walk them tired before the dog park, use calm assertive leadership, and become new alpha to it.

I’ve heard good things on the training provided your friend is open to new training.

Henry, not so much..... I think it’s a grump old guy schnauzer thing. We elect for the vaccine. At 15, we figure he needs all the help he can get.

I know, didn’t answer you question

Bath time for this one, same dog I posted on page one of this thread. My other dog in the page one photo went with my ex. I hated having to split the two dogs up.

Just an update on Dante who we adopted from a rescue just over 4 months ago. He's completely transformed from the sad, scared, confused dog who didn't know his name or how to walk on leash when we brought him home. He has found his calling in life: kill all squirrels! Maybe not surprising, Schnauzers were originally bred as 'ratters'.

This is the day he came home:

And here he is tonight on a walk - literally going up a tree after a squirrel

Thanks for the "Dante" update, Curt.

Fantastic! Please give the 'squirrel hunter' a little belly rub (or 12) from the girls.....

Looking good Curt. Mine flushed a big turkey and I had 200 pounds of dogs trying to chase it a few days ago

Ha! I can't imagine trying to hold back 200lbs worth. My 2 little guys (one 15-lbs, one 30-lbs) can be like a couple of sled dogs when they want to pull.

Someone left a note on my front door asking about breeding this guy. My wife called the phone number. Guy said it was the best looking dog he had ever seen, and was disappointed to find out the dog is neutered. I have had people driving by pull over to comment on what a beauty he is, but it still is surprising someone would leave a note like that
