Shadow is the newest member of the crew.
He came from a rescue as a return. His dad is a Marine that got deployed to Afghanistan and Shadow had no other family. When we got him you couldn't pick him up (security issues) but with some good lovin the little dude has got his sparkle back. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340382102.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340382134.jpg |

Baz,
Thanks! Your ACD's are great dogs, too! I don't see many of them here, are they "warm weather" dogs? Daisy hats the cold winters and hot summers, she's definitely a spoiled, indoor dog! |

when i got him the plan was to turn him into a spoiled indoor cream puff. and he does enjoy his spot on the couch near the wood stove. but in general heelers are happier running through brush or rolling in mud. |

Thanks Art - like Varmit said...these dogs are VERY adaptable to all kinds of conditions - and they are found worldwide. They make wonderful domesticated dogs although they were originally bred to help on ranches, etc. and still possess all the characteristics of the herding breed. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340574510.jpg |

Here are my 2 Weimaraners. Haley (8) and Bailey (7). Haley is a rescue we adopted about 3 years ago. They are absolluteyl great dogs-especially with the family.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340586730.jpg

Nice girls Chris...they're about 1 year each under my girls' ages...getting up there...yikes!
Yeah Varmit - I like The Road Warrior a LOT better too but that's a great shot of Heath and the 2 Heelers you gotta admit. I have one somewhere of Jake G. too from the movie - you don't really see much of the dogs in the actual movie though so these pics are pretty cool. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340592958.jpg |

He was kind enough to share with us when he was off working jobs where he couldn't take him. A couple of months ago Merlin left this world & my son put him in our back yard. Merlin has pushed up a bunch of beautiful flowers. Little Penny was a Christmas present from the kids. She is so pretty & so sweet. If my cell phone pics came out, you can see Penny is deveolping into a fine dog. |
My ex was devastated when she lost her Shih Tzu Molly. I helped her get a new girl, Echoe. She is going overboard with this new pup...

Rupert Dawg, RIP, we had to put him down this spring after 15 years of him owning us on the couch and bed.......I swear that dog was half star-fish the way he'd slowly push you off to one side of a bed pushing closer and closer and closer.......all he ever wanted was to be loved and petted, was EVERYONES friend.
Best dog I've ever ever had.........and NOT a "pit bull" to the ignorant masses, he was an "American Staffordshire Terrior"..........big difference, mid size body and a heart of gold. 70-75 pounds of love. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340685134.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340685190.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340685205.jpg |

Cool dogs, all!!

I had Rika out on the water again yesterday...the beach on the farm. We worked for about 45 minutes, all easy retrieves and plenty of time and pets between go's. He did very well.
At the end, he decided a rest in the cool water was appropriate. Me, too. Seven months old and so willing to try. I keep it simple and fun at his age. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340992903.jpg Inside http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340992944.jpg |

I had two "WeisenHeimers" before my current dog. Loved them! Weimaraners are NOT a starter dog! They want to be with their "human" 24/7 no matter what.
I miss both of my Weimaraners big time! Jaberwokie and Jazmine...R.I.P. |

Yesterday I saw 2 different women walking the dogs on the hot asphalt at 3PM. I stopped and asked them if they put their feet on the asphalt to check if it was cool enough for their dogs. Of course they both looked very confused......humans are the problem with dogs! |

You are a good Dude, Baz.
Growing up on a ranch and now living on a farm the last 20 years, I was taught and now live the ethos that the animals come first. Simple. Rika and Cassie four months ago when he was a tad smaller. He is now much larger than she is. Cassie is a Red Heeler we rescued 7 years ago. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1341076809.jpg On the stairs. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1341076891.jpg |
BAZ,
Thanks for starting this great thread. And it is good that you posted the vehicle temp post. Penny puts up with me going to work, but she is heartbroken if I leave otherwise. I take her on short trips where I can leave the windows in the truck down. But I watch that now. I think somebody has picked on & aggravated her in the truck. There is a boy up the road that was in the same Army outfit as I, separated by 12 or 15 yrs. We stop by each other's place ocassionally. One day he was in the yard as I passed & he flagged me down. I rolled the window down & Penny who knew & liked him was vicious as he came up. After that, she about bit the man at the hardware store who always petted her in the truck. He & I were shocked. I asked if he would let me get her out of the truck. She about knocked the folks down wanting to get petted. Be careful of what people do to your dog in a vehicle. They could be mistreating. To the folks with Wiems, They are something else. My son thinks his had the mind of a human. To the folks with Rescue Dogs, Thank you. Many folks get them a dog & don't know what they're getting, then get rid of them. I hope you are blessed twice, not just having a dog that loves you. Seahawk, I'm glad you & Rika are working together good. I'm not a duck hunter, but I know there is nothing better than a dog pleasing his people with the skills there genes program them for. And nothing loves you like a good hunting dog. Enjoyed everybody's pics |
Hi Drew,
Thank you for such a thoughtful post! There's a lot of insight into your words. My girls (and all Heelers are like this) have such a high pitched bark, it's actually called a shriek. That alone is enough to give a human pause. But like most dogs, they can sense a good person from a bad one and are usually very eager to give and receive some lovin's. Would love to see some more pics of your little Penny! Paul, You are so right about looking after our 4-legged friends. I wasn't brought up on a ranch but was fortunate enough to be brought up by a great set of parents who simply taught us to respect others, especially those who cannot fend for themselves. One reason why I always enjoy your family-related posts. Thanks for posting the pics of your BEAUTIFUL GIRL Cassie! I was hoping we'd get to see her at some point. She's about the same age as our rescue girl, Billabong...... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1341084162.jpg |
Hi fellow dog lovers! Baz directed me here from the 911S Registry forum. Here's my Porsche enthusiast, Tank. he's a South African Boerboel...

Craig,
Great looking dog, a breed I am not familiar with. Let us in on the breed. An where in Ventura County are you? I grew up there. Best. |
