That 870 has a big following. Benelli, I love, but customer service is non-existent and anything for them takes a long time to get and is mucho $$$. (BUT THE BEST SHORT SHOTGUN IMHO).

And check with California DOJ, as the Judge could be prohibited in some areas as a short shotgun??? Please be sure. My brother has one and it is easy as heck to shoot. I like it.

![]() I really think the Judge is a poor weapon. It hardly puts any shot out (.410) and is seriously hampered as a 45 LC. Put buckshot in it and you may end up with 3 pellets if you are lucky! ![]() G |

6 pellets of 00 buck in a 3" .410

I really like a .410 shotgun for home defense. And if 00 buck isn't enough for you (not sure why it wouldn't be), a slug has more energy in typical home defense ranges than even a .357 Magnum...way more than anyone needs for home defense.

![]() I like my 12 gauge benelli M1 but that is old school. A 410 or 20 gauge would probably accomplish the same thing. Also it depends on the load selection, heavy hunting loads for the first two with two 00 buck and a last round being a slug. Others experiences may be different, but my thought is if it is in the house, it will be at close quarters, the bird shot is not going to disperse very far. So even if you are close the offender may be very discouraged if it was not a fatal hit, the next two rounds will seal the deal. Oh I agree a stocked short shotgun is my preference.
