Big boy toy...........

While a Navy SeaBee, I always liked shooting one of these, a 106mm recoilless rifle. Just had to watch out for the backblast area! The 50 cal spotting rifle on top was also a hoot to shoot!

We have one of those at the shop. We were laughing about it. We call it "the Dead Mans Gun", because by the time you get it unfolded and cocked you will surely be dead.

These were still in service when I was in the Army back in the 80s.

From memory they made one hell of a racket and were scary to fire.

The Model 514 before our 9 year old got a hold of it.

And then after.

I really like the XD, but I bet that little thing has some bite in .45 ACP.

The pistol is so new, I haven't had a chance to shoot it. Only took it apart to clean and reassemble. Gonna go to the range maybe today.

From the reviews online, the Mod2 is redesigned with the grip a bit higher and closer to the bore axis, and they say the recoil is manageable. It does have a little weight at 21 ounces so it shouldn't be too bad. But hey, it is a 45 and I'll find out soon enough. Pretty sure you'll want a strong two-handed grip. And depending on the bullet weight, recoil may be greater with the heavier bullet. I'm gonna start out with 185gr. XTP, then 230gr. FMJ. Standby.

Range report on Springfield XDS Mod2 in 45ACP:

Shot like any other 45ACP. If you try to fight the recoil, it may be a bit painful. If you just let it recoil but hold onto it, it is fine.

Mine shoots a bit low at 5 yards, so I need to talk to Springfield about it. 5-round groups are around 3 to 4 inches.

With the 5-round magazine and the short extension (as pictured in previous posting), the grip is a bit cramped for the 3 fingers and the gap between the magazine and the frame of the pistol can pinch your pinky finger because the magazine rocks a little during recoil. Maybe Springfield has a cure for that too. I did shoot 70 rounds, so it may be expected to pinch your pinky. In a defensive situation, I doubt you will shoot 70 rounds.

I did not try the 6-round extended magazine.

Otherwise, it is easy to shoot.

No failures to feed or eject with either Hornady 185gr. XTP or 230 gr. Blazer Brass FMJ.

Go get yourself one. Nice little pistol.

I find my Sig 938 is much nicer to hold and shoot with the extended magazine. It keeps my pinky from dangling, which is preferred.

Not a survival gun but an ambush gun like the WWII liberator. Designed to be used once to take a real weapon away from your dead enemy.

I thought this was interesting. Old school machines and zero Western safety standards for the workers.
