Just be careful on the Cook and Kerry mountains!

She has a blinged out Marlin 30-30. Actually it is just brass Skinner aperture sights on it. We have a sxs 12g muzzle loader and .50 caliber muzzle loader they have ready to do. Both have lots of surface rust on the barrels.

Now that we replaced a broken leaf spring on the trailer they both want to use the spring steel to make knives. Yes, my kids are geeks.

It's an Ithaca made LeFever Nitro Special, worth about $500 (more if a 20g, much more if a 410).

Ithaca bought Lefever in 1916 and produced a cheaper "box lock" version of the original side lock shotgun which you have. Great field guns to be sure. I have a few original Lefevers ranging in age from 1891 (10g), 1902 (16g) and 1914 (20g). I just don't get out and shoot them all that much. Nice work by the kids!

Thanks. It is a 12 and I wasn't worried too much. The value to me is having the kids do hands on stuff. They like computer games as much as any kid, but they also hunt, fish and shooting sports. Both can clean a Texas Star even if it takes a while. At least they don't wait for it to stop.

Her 30-30 when she first got her Skinners.

Patience rewarded!
I knew if I kept them long enough I'd have some 100 year old firearms.

I just ordered a Rock Island VR80 Semi-auto 12 bore.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1580063029.jpg

Planning a different stock & grip, not sure what I’ll use as a sight. And a 20-rd drum magazine just for grins.

Pretty good bang for your buck at $600 (pun intended).

No on the rifled barrel, but I could use rifled slugs.

Tried to source a couple of extra barrels- one to shorten (to still legal) for home defense & another to rifle it.

Someone asked me the other day if a bump-fire stock would work. That would be fun.

Just trying to learn , other than mag capacity what are the advantages of this style vs a more traditional shotgun ?

You can reload the magazine instantly.

They share parts with ARs (if you happen to own one).

They share locations of buttons and controls with ARs (if you happen to own one).

Many AR upgrades and accessories will work with these.

This has been the holy grail of combat shotguns since repeaters were invented.

The fact that it uses AR furniture and is ergonomically close enough to be "the same" is just icing on the cake.

Since I'm somewhat of a traditionalist, I'd go for the Mossberg 590M (the mil-spec 590 plus the detachable mag feature)

Finished my first all-from-individual-parts (and first ingeneral unless you could putting two halves together) AR build today.

PSA lower
Enhanced trigger LPK from joeboboutfitters.com
Ergo grip from JBO
Ace/Doublestar ARFX stock
whatever milspec rifle length spring and buffer primaryarms.com had cheapest
Spartan side charging non-reciprocating upper from JBO
Toolcraft bolt/bolt carrier group from JBO
16" carbine length gas 762x39 barrel from bearcreekarsenal.com
Ghost un-labeled handguards w/ their barrel nut
KAK lo-profile gas block
generic gas tube
A2 style flash hider
UTG "slim" irons

Trigger from the "enhanced" LPK is nice, and cost no more than the standard LPK from most places. Additionally, there is the "no grip" option along with the option to add the Ergo grip (I'd order anyway) for $2 off...

The barrel has a MOA guarantee if using the Hornady SST ammo. And was dirt cheap (one half to one third the price of others I was looking at). Also got a 556 barrel w/ a MOA guarantee but that's for a different week....

Side charging upper lets me keep using the muscle memory the FAL has built over the years.

Just need to decide on optic... either take off sights and use a low power variable or keep 'em and add a red dot.

Shoots good. Since spare mags are far and few between, I did the mods on a Beretta Neos mag to make it work in my FN. This one was made in 1970.

Very nice find, Fred. I can't help but notice the similarities between your Browning and my old High Standard Sport King.

Haha, I'm pleased it's my fault Fred.

THAT'S a nice one. I had one just like it but it was a lot more worn looking than yours.

There is a manual for it under Browning FN http://stevespages.com/page7b.htm but you need to sign in these days.

Bill Douglas 03-07-2020 05:40 PM

this was my one.
