Has anyone watched Premium Rush? Don't want to be a spoiler but fun enough to watch for any roadie with a fantasy. Lots of fixie and mtn. bike action too.

I think it's hard to justify spending over a grand on the older stuff when carbon technology has come so far that you can get a new carbon Tarmac for the same price. Honestly, the modern entry level components are probably better than 6 year old ultegra, and lighter. I have lots of love for the older stuff but something like this is hard not to get at that price point:

Specialized Tarmac Mid Compact Carbon Road Bike

While that is certainly an OK bike for the price...but.... I would feel like a great big weener on that....I'm not a "Lance" that likes flashy bikes and I personally wear solid black or dark blue bike clothes w/o any logo....

That LeMond is a solid bike and will certainly still be a classic down the road not to mention that the LeMond name isn't being built anymore.

The Japanese components of recent years have gotten a little too blingy for me and the word is that they are not built as well as past years.

No doubt that is a great bike. Color aside, I'd take the new Japanese bike every time but I do ride a Specialized so I may be biased. I think their R&D is second to none and the race performance of their gear reflects that.

Hey JB, I have to disagree with you on the Japanese components. I am still riding shimano 9 spd on both my bikes, but will not think twice about buying their 10 or 11 spd for a new bike. No electronic stuff for me. I will report back as soon as I get my Ridley up and running. I have SRAM on it. Had the damn thing for over a year but have not been able to put it together.

It is a pretty top notch vintage bike that goes for over $1K. At that level they are as much art as machine. Colnago, Pinarello, Masi, Bianchi, Raleigh, Nuovo Record, Super Record, Mavic, all the best. Hand made frames, the best craftsmen of the time. Steel, aluminum, titanium, leather and cloth. No plastic.

A new carbon road bike at $1K has the bottom of the line Shimano group. Sora or Tiagra at best. Works okay, feels cheap, is cheap, as much plastic as they can squeeze in. Frame came from a Chinese mold.

Kind of like a 1989 Carrera vs a 2013 Scion FR-S. On specs, the Scion is every bit the equal of the Carrera. It is lighter, gets to 60 faster, etc. You pick.

So it's raining and I'm doing inside maintenance. Pulled the rear wheel off the LeMond to check bearings, cog wear and such. I'm a little cornfuzzled. It looks to be a Campy cassette....13/26 but the Bontrager wheels came with the bike and it was originally Dura Ace.

Anyone know how to tell what splines are under the cassette w/o removing the cassette? I don't have a lock ring removal tool of a chain whip handy.

Second, the cogs look to be wearing....I don't seem to see anything larger than a 26 ring available, is that right?

What advantage is there having a chunk taken out of the chain ring on the BMX part?

No or less interruption when shifting from ring to ring on the forward crank rings while going full speed....usually there is a lag when doing so....

Picked up a new one last night, Vassago Ti made by Lynskey, made to double as a Single Speed. Now I need to sell my Litespeed.
