Unless I'm missing something in translation it is Spinach

See the little bars in his hand? Cinelli produced these mini aerobars in the early 90's-you used them without armrests. They thought they could/should be usable in mass start racing, but the UCI thought it to be a poor idea. Hence the "legalize Spinachi" ad.

Z, iirc your wife is hotter than the Campbell's girl.

I had a set of those on my Cannonade. They were ok, I am not sure if they were necessary or effective. I rather ride next to someone with those then someone resting their elbow on top of their bar.

Is there a sample pic of those mini-A bars? Also, somewhere on fleabay, (UK perhaps) there was a pair of bars that almost looked like drop bar end type, but might have been for a different set-up. They were very small in diameter.

-----And about Miss Campagnolo Soup.... think I'm getting played. Overthinking it but how does a search engine and image cross from bikes and food coupons?

Me bad, neglecting? Late night, spending more time than usual on preserving a bike at the moment. Cleaning and polishing N. Record stuff. Or perhaps its a good sign and Santa will leave some bike presents??

Disregard my Q on the mini aero bars.

But what and how are these used?

Portland Area craftsmen build balance bikes for charity. (taken from BikePortland)

This is what happens when you ask Portlanders to build balance bikes - BikePortland.org

(disregard the curmudgeonly comments from Max in the comments section - these are cool and were were made for a charity auction. Max is overthinking the idea)

WTH? This thread sunk to Page 5!

Well, here's a pic of my recently-completed 84 Gitane Team Pro:

With winter fast-approaching, I figured I need a new project. Everyone's probably seen this pic of Sean Kelly before:

Well, that's my new project (not the legs, the bike behind them  ). It's a Vitus Carbone 3, one of the first carbon bikes in the pro peloton. I plan to refurbish this frame to full 1986 KAS-Mavic livery/specs with a Mavic SSC gruppo. Not easy parts to find so this will take some time.

Very cool bike. Here's mine:

After:

I don't actually know what happened. I remember pushing on the bars a bit to hop over a bump on the path. Then suddenly the ground was coming at me. I woke up with a badly separated shoulder, a sore head, and people standing over me. Please be careful!

*EDIT*

I should clarify; The top tube pulled off the head tube lug and the down tube broke. I just don't know for sure if I pulled it apart or if the front skewer was loose and the wheel came off and the forks hit the ground...

Yikes! I've heard many stories about these early carbon frames having bonding issues as they age, but they're usually based upon something heard from a friend of a friend of a second cousin. This is the first verified bond failure I've seen. I will be closely monitoring mine during the renovation and after each ride. Thanks!

My friend, a bike shop owner is one of the every few people that are cert. by Vitus to repair those frames. People used to send him their frames from all over the world for repair.

Curt, talk to steve at Open Road in Pasadena about your frame. He know all about them and should have the jigs for the prepare should you need them.

Good info. Thanks.

That's not good info....that's GREAT info! What a great resource!

The more I look at this, the more I'm inclined to believe the wheel did come off first and that it is not a simple bond failure ( I happen to be a forensic engineer ) . There had to be a big impact on that joint for the inner lug stub to tear through the bottom end of that carbon tube. Whatever the case, that's a scary crash!

It's also interesting that the weave on your frame is completely different from mine and other Carbones I've seen. Your's has a tight square weave where others have a diagonal wrap/weave like one of these two:

Well you might be interested in a couple more data points then.

I don't have access to the head tube at the moment but I have a few pics.

1. The tearout from the bottom of the top tube is not still attached to the lug. The bottom of the top tube may very well have been the first thing to hit the ground.

2. The innermost layer(s) of carbon are still attached to the top lug save for a small section at the top.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1418770410.jpg

I had noticed the different weave but was not able to find any information on when/why the change.

I don't remember the crash, it wasn't scary at all. Though, changing diapers with one arm? That's scary!
