Just finished building another old frame into a new bike a little while ago.

My interpretation of a Ducati colour scheme.
Porsche Guards red paint, carbon forks, campy wheels and components

Trying it out this weekend on a 200 mile ride. Hope I tightened everything properly

Is that a Mt. Cycle San Andreas? Haven't seen one in years! Cool - what's the story behind it?

yeah- San Andreas. I built it up a long time ago for long distance mtb races. When they came out I think the travel was about 2-3 inches. Converted the rear shock to about 6 inches, cut the midsection of the frame up to make it fit, put on a Marzocchi bomber/dropoff and dropped the crown on the stanchions to keep the geometry rideable at about 5 inches travel, put XO SRAM shifters on, Campy record 102mm bottom bracket for narrow road bike q factor, Hyperlight bars which were properly trimmed to fit between tight trees (unlike today's stylish big wide bars which don't make a bit of sense to me), Flite saddle (light), Alien seatpost (lightest available but a b@#$ to set up), mavix crossmax ceramic clincher rims, michelin wildgripper comp s light tires. Eggbeater triple ti. All lightweight gear to keep you fast, but the all mountain travel to keep you comfy on 10 hour rides. I revalved the dampers to have rebound damping only, no compression rebound. The thing rode like a cadillac. All the waterbottles/tools on to keep the weight low on the frame so no need to mess with camelback weight on your back (they always got to hot/ heavy on my back over long rides imho). In the big/middle rings the thing had no bobbing and was fast as hell. Always a riot because it looks like a ridiculous downhill bike but ran like a hardtail x-country, but was really an all mountain type rig before that term even existed. People would laugh but it always worked great and led to some crazy enduro XXC wins. When you get on it, it settles/sags down just like when you jump on a kx250 or cr250 type dirtbike. I used to mount slicks on it and show up to local group road rides and would end up pulling roadies I pulled it out of the garage today after 2 years of non mtb riding and as ridiculous as it looks, still love it!!!
P.S.- when rear shock fully compressed the rear wheel lightly buzzes the rear water bottle!

OMG - a San Andreas!!!! Seriously, this was the Porsche 959 of its day! Had a buddy who bought one and let me ride it. It was absolutely fantastic. I could not believe a bike could be that cushy, that responsive, and that dead neutral all in one package. Seriously, absolutely a game changing bike!

Between a gazillion other non-bike projects, finally finished this vintage hot-rod. Pics taken just before the final tweaks and adjustments. Circa 1958 - original made by a custom frame builder in London. Note the livery. Built with all race period components. Reynolds 531 butted throughout, Nervex Professional lugs, Campy dropouts and fork ends. Tubulars and built them by even using vintage butted spokes. Mostly new cable inners but I salvaged some old outer sheathing. Wanted to keep the patina and the race battle scar look.

French AVA death stem... because in the day, they were one of the lightest and I simply like aura of them.

Swiss Weinmann 'cottered' aluminum race crank 330 gm. Don't think I'll be sprinting with them.

Oil port in bottom bracket. Unable to source the correct or original cap so its plugged. I use grease anyways.

Arched and reinforced brake bridge

1st ride - to the gravel I go

Hey Intake,
Please keep up the good work of posting your projects! I have learned more about vintage bikes from checking out your pics than you can imagine. That peugeot is insane! Thanks!

^Thanks Leaky. We're just temporary caretakers of this kind of stuff and I certainly feel privileged to bring this one back to life. Don't want to bore others of it but right off, I could feel the frame builders 'black magic'. Can also understand why even some cycling enthusiast wouldn't have the interest. But its really a remarkable and special bike. A few dots to connect but it has an interesting provenance.

Funny, but I don't always consider weight being overall benchmark but if I swapped the heavy saddle and pedals, this old thing could easily be 22 / 23 lbs..

Your Viner is next although so many other things happening and really want to focus on the riding. Its the 'cycles of life' thing. The cars, toys, meet's / events is secondary and so little time.

Off to a vintage ride this weekend-
Cheer's, S.
