I'd find a replacement frame on CL or something-
or, flip the bike on the other side and hit it with the cart again:D

If it was a high end frame or if it has special meaning to him, it most likely would not be worth it.

What is the thought on something like this??http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1689381077.jpg

One of the guys on one of the BMX sites I go to is offering it up for trade for some of my vintage BMX stuff. I know nothing about this modern stuff and am not afraid to admit that. I was very surprised with how expensive these are and all I know is that it is a pedal assist downhill bike.

Between my knee issues and breathing issues, it has been suggested that I consider a eBike.

I switched a few bits on Bolt.

-edit- those hutch forks bring back memories! Same for the Ame grips

I'd say if your vintage BMX parts are just 'sitting around' and not getting much use, this thing would be fun.
Do you need it in Fla? probably not- it's overkill- unless you are jumping anacondas, but-

There are several people who show up to a local gravel ride on these things. It's a pretty open group, so everyone is welcome. These things are awesome, especially for people (including myself) getting older with perhaps some 'ailments'.

Well, I'm not there yet, hip replacement, bum knee, arthritis, bad attitude, but, advil can only go so far. I am mortal!

The pedal assist keeps them dominant until about 20? 24? mph, - but- then, it kicks out. above that they are like a sitting duck with a heavy bike. The faster people in the group will gang up on them on the fast flats and pass in a pace line, but when the pitch goes up, they can catch right up.

I love it on fast flats "Pull in- GET HIM!!!!"

Reminds me of fords/camaro's vs. mini coopers. It's fun racing on heavy gravel/hardpack.

I think you'd enjoy it for a while and perhaps be able to hone in on something else. Get it, enjoy it before the shocks wear out, and trade up for something else.

Just make sure the dropper post can extend to something semi-reasonable to pedal. If the seat will not extend to a good pedalling position for you to pedal naturally, I'd pass, and look for something that fits. I would research the battery assist capabilities on that specific model, check out reviews, etc. The lower pivot point is in a good place for a 1x. I like it!:D
edit two- although if I was just kicking several blocks over on pavement to a local bar, I'd take the bolt!

Thanks, I have to weigh the value of extensive part of my childhood vs what I use to consider cheating. And yes, basic bar rides require me to do all the pedalling, a beer is a reward for the effort, but when we do our Thursday night ride in town, it includes bridges and I wear out a 1/4 way through the ride. Speaking of Gravel bikes, I haven't taken mine out for a while and need to.

Tell you what. If I were in your shoes, but for a weekly in town local hammerfest, I'd research assist bikes in general and look for more "cross country" or hardtail variants. Especially if you are riding mostly pavement.

I also get the importance of childhood. My Torker is off limits.

I get the cheating issue of these ebikes. I've got some local establishments I go to- and ride to- just to burn off some calories and make the night an adventure. Perhaps the short rides makes a regular beer turn into a light beer. At any rate, there was some dude riding a ridiculous e-bike with small wheels ( 20 inch? 16 inch?) ) the other day at 30+ mph straggling all over the road. I followed him in my car (I couldn't pass- he was all over the place). Mr. Bean couldn't have done better himself.

Later on that night, I rode a real bike to my local establishment. On way home, he "amped?" up at the top of a hill in the other direction.. We passed head on at about 40+mph combined. Loosened up after a beer or two myself, climbing a hill under my own 'real' power, I looked at him and and yelled "CHEATER" as he passed.

My David Attenborough voice kicked in.
"In nature, some are worthy. He, was not."
I wondered if he would do a u turn and track me down.
David Attenborough kicked in again:
"Doubtful"

Tonight's ride home...

I played with some settings in manual, but was not able to make the autofocus lock on the bars as intended- next time, I will manually set the focus in short to catch the bars and let the sunset happen in the distance, with the road in blur- a work in progress.

But not sure how a bike that heavy would work for me.

A neighbor with some serious health issues has an electric motorcycle ... er, e-Bike :D ... fantastic solution for him. I maintain it. Funny story the other day when I asked if everything was running good. He said it was making a weird noise and did not seem to be pedaling correctly but he continued pedaling on his 5-mile ride and made it home. When he got home, he looked at it and found the chain had fallen off the chainring. He had 'pedaled' over 3 miles  :D

This is exactly it, the bike is special to him particularly since the manufacturer is no longer in business. I will advise him to find a reputable (hopefully local) frame straightener.

Thanks all.

You know, Paul Brodie did that exact repair on YT. Your buddy ought to watch that just to be informed. Squaring up the bottom bracket was really well detailed.

Update on my chainsucked damaged carbon fiber diverge:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1689639235.JPG

This certainly looked like chainsuck, but had just enough going on to make me wonder if I'd started a stress fracture.

Anyhow- Look what came in the mail today!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1689639450.JPG

I got a screaming deal on some carbon fiber. And the owner swears by it.

Second- This got me sanding the frame. I don't think there's any deep cracks/damage. (good news) I will sand some more paint/ filler off the periphery and will get to carbon fibering for bonding. it is interesting to see the different directions/ and filler used on a CF frame. I will overbuild this area, as it will eventually have more chain encounters.

more pics to come-assuming the repair looks good. If not, then no pics.

Carbon Fiber update 7/20/23.
Carbon on. This stuff lays finicky as all getout. Not as sexy as I intended with carbon fiber weave orientation, but I realized this is tricky territory. The CF immediately starts to separate. Needs to be canted against itself for strength and not to fall apart on the spot. I am not a carbon fiber expert. This does not behave like your father's fiberglass. I am abandoning any future submarine projects. I should have watched youtube videos before starting. I should have had a way to compress the CF against the frame. But- this is not really structural, it's more protection. Assuming the epoxy dries (it's slowly getting tacky- so hopeful...) I will sand this flush and be done with it. It does barely pass muster with my "looks good enough to post to ppot" criteria, although I am not happy with the lay of the weave across the bb. At that point, it was a matter of survival, not being sexy.:D I do think the final sanded portion will provide some meat for future chain drops and give me confidence to bomb doubletrack. That's about 3 layers thick at the areas trashed by chainsuck.

26 inch canti- to- 700c v-brake- boss replositioning- to -disc brake reassignement surgery complete(ish'ed). My trash can bike now identifies as a disc brake bike. Will fill in some gaps and sand out, but overall- success. Big grins on first time out. The brazing is ugly. (fugly- really) I and brazing with a smalll welding tip, not enough heat to evenly heat the area and just let the brazing flow. Also, I did not want to overheat the drive side leather chainstay protector- but even with heat shielding, that was a concern. That said- today was about caliper mount alignment, and not loosening the left rear dropout. Success! Crappy brazing I can grind off and add too. Caliper alignment was perfectissimo!!!! :) I think I might just leave this in clear coat as the brown burn marks accent the rustoleum frame color
(which I "thought" as a homage to porsche 911 sand beige, but perhaps maybe light ivory, or ivory...either way- a 911 frame color reference).

I had the distinct pleasure of accidentally meeting “look171” on Thursday in Las Vegas.

I was hanging out in a booth of a company that I work with at the AWFS (Association of Woodworking and Finishing Suppliers) show at the Las Vegas Convention Center. I happened to be wearing a Campagnolo t-shirt and he came up to me and commented on my shaved legs and how I must be a cyclist- honestly it was not weird... got to talking and because I’m obsessed with waxed chains, I brought that up and he put two and two together and asked if I had a Porsche and bingo we made a Pelican connection.

Unfortunately I was leaving for the airport in a couple of hours, so we weren’t able to hang out.

Great guy and it was a pleasure to meet him.

Nice meeting you, now get on your bike!
