Not wearing my helmet, (it was in my other car, 1st mistake)while riding the trails, the day after it rained (2nd mistake) and nailing a tree , last August landed me in the hospital.

Now some cool bikes

^^^ Curt... Any of those bikes in reasonable/complete condition can be around 10k today.
(How many got turned into Clunkers and then got trashed?)

Original paint regardless of condition is most important.

Thanks for sharing, I’ve been using Skyways since they 1st hit the BMX market.

Fun fact, Ken (one of the owners) is a car guy, into old Camaros. The large guy, who was spinning and showing the New version of Skyway mags, name is Ed, and he is the main distributor of Skyway products with his Planet BMX, he is also responsible for the modern TA, probably the best riding “Retro” frame sets out there.

Back in the early 2000s, he was working in the bike shop I used to work in, and I would still had the privilege of building my bicycles there, whenever I wanted. Ed use to race, but was pretty much out of it when I got into building the Retro bikes ( my Azusa was the 1st modern interpretation of a vintage brand (JMC) and only 20 were made) and I was telling Ed that there were a lot of guys like me who were interested in modern versions of our favorite bikes, clearly he listened to me and eventually Ran with it and he is a Major force in the industry today.
And I still have a set of original Graphites with Campy hubs from the 80s as well as the modern version in both 20”&24”.

I've got my vintage Rollfast balloon tire bike completely disassembled. Serial Nr. indicates 1952. This thing is built like a tank. I think the seat weighs about the same as my entire Specialized Tarmac But, everything is overbuilt, easily disassembled and rebuildable, down to the original headset and BB bearings. I will need to re-lace both wheels since the spokes are rusted at the nipples.

Rusted At The Nipples would be a good name for a band.

Old bikes are funny. Simultaneously seriously overbuil, and wildly underbuilt. What they didn't know back then would fill a book.

Bike guys, what’s the best way to ship a frame? Found a frame and fork near Dallas and looking to ship it to Houston, having a bit of sticker shock. The cheapest FedEx rate was $350!!! The seller has carefully boxed it and put pipe foam pipe insulation all over the frame to protect it. He has mentioned Bikeflight, any of you had any experience w them? Their price quote generator indicates that it will ship UPS, the BF rate is about 5X cheaper than I could find on the quote generator for UPS. Thoughts?

I start a thread once I receive it. I will be picking your brains for ideas on how to build it and will be looking to source some period correct components. Appreciate any feedback you may have.

I’ve had good experiences and much better prices using Bike Flights

Disqualified because her bike was 20 grams underweight (0.705479 ounce).

I think I heard them play back in the grunge rock days.

Frame & fork came in at a svelte 13.2 pounds.
