It's been a rough winter for NYC.

This was posted on my local wine and gravel site. It represents the perfect fit of what I want in a group ride- Go out- dog it. Go out easy. Go out and just do it as a first ride. Go out and cut it short. All end up at the same endpoint and hang out together afterwards.

"Joy Equity
joy equity ˈjȯi eq·ui·ty ˈe-kwə-tē

1

a: Equal opportunity at joy in riding. Every rider enjoying themselves while riding at their own pace. Joy equity is not realized by helping people ride the same pace, but by creating the circumstances that allow all riders an equal opportunity to enjoy the ride.

Mindful of joy equity, she did not feel the need to keep up with the riders ahead of her, nor expect them to wait for her.

b: A feeling of happiness resulting from doing your own thing. Knowing that you are free and welcomed to ride the pace you want and feel great about doing it. AGW rides do not have a pace expectation, nor an expectation that we all ride the same pace.

That **** was a blast, what joy!

c: The experience or expression of such emotion in knowing that your fellow riders are enjoying themselves.

Seeing you happy on your bike gives me such joy."

Now, THAT is what it (imho) is all about. Since I haven't ridden in a month due to weather, I enter into humbly.

"New Bike Day" for wifey last weekend.
Here is her new "Sirrus X 5.0"
Figured out that she was riding too small a bike for quite some time.
She likes fit, and I think this will be a pretty significant upgrade. Hydraulic brakes, only one choice of chainring (she was about driving me nuts with small ring/small cog type stuff).
Carbon 'truss' frame should be much more comfortable.
She doesn't ride long or far, but she rides just about every day.

Good prices this time of year in the midwest, too. After nearly 20yrs on the last bike, she can have whatever she wants!

Well, we'll need pix of that wild new bike so we can ooh and ahh.

(I agree about the 1x. I remember trying to teach a gf all about the basics of the 2x.)

Sorry-
I'm having technology issues and the photo did load.....

Here is her super stealthy, all-black steed.

Surprisingly, she asked - "Why isn't there a "Specialized" decal on the downtube?"

And honestly - I'm really not sure. Seems like they have downplayed their brand recently.

As for setup, etc...
She already asked for her bars to be narrowed. So - yep, I cut those suckers down.
Installed her "Ergo" grips, along with a super cool bell. Of course, her regular SPD pedals.
And as a nod to being old, traditional bikers - put some O.G. American Classic cages on.
It came with a rear triangle mounted kickstand, and she likes to keep that. (It's almost painful for me to leave it on, but it beats a scratched up frame)

Only thing I'd like to upgrade is the crank/BB. They seem to have cheaped out on that part of the spec. I could see this happening over next winter. And maybe a little better shifter. And the tires are kind of heavy for my liking, but I think they'll prove to be durable.

And here's the kid's bike.
All set for their spring break trip to Bentonville, Arkansas.
Most likely no racing this year - unless I can convince him that we should do Ore To Shore in August. (A fun, point-to-point that starts in Ishpeming, MI and ends at Marquette)

New rear derailleur, new tires, and a good once-over.
He was having a heckofa time with a noisy shifter (SRAM GX), and I think largely it was because of derailleur hanger alignment (fixed that) - but I'm sick of hearing about it. This one should be solid....

Carbon fiber sure does lend itself to interesting bike shapes. I like it. And as to derailleur hanger adjustment, one of my best tools is a clone of the Park Tool hanger alignment tool, fom ebay. I use it often (my Crux has a wimpy, weak hanger that gets tweaked very easily).

Yup.
That's the one I use, too.

And my son has a Crux also. Got the derailleur and hanger all mangled in a CX crash - so new hanger, new derailleur and a bunch of spokes.....

Great looking Trek mountain bike!

I was watching the Indy race this weekend and took note of Mick Schumacher's car sponsor, none other that bike part manufacturer ENVE!
