I find Danny Macaskill to be otherworldly to watch. So many of his tricks seem impossible.

vintage night riders

Just fired these up after 10 years in storage! Amazed the 6 volt sealed lead acid battery survived and excellent! I used them years ago for off-road night adventures. Dual 20 watt halogen, or run one (10W) at a time to extend run time. Adjustable beams from narrow to wide. Weird that the battery is still so good.. guessing I must have put it away hot. Long charge time to full but unlike niCad, there's no memory issues. Heavy weighing near 6 lbs.

Rarely do I ride anymore at night but just had to try these 10 year old 20 watt set-up on the folding bike. I added a cheapo Bell LED w/ strobe function as well. Brilliant.

I bought this Ciocc a couple of years ago and have never ridden it. Been hanging in the garage. It's bike porn to me.

I once read that in order to pronounce "Ciocc" you turn your head and cough...

Choke? Choch? Chooch? Chock?

Whatever, that is a beautiful bike Chris. Wish you were joining us on it for the STP!

When I was building them in the 80s.....the rep called them Chee oh ch...

I can ride a flat hundred, Mike. I know I can't do two. If there was a way to bail out at mid point, I'd have joined you guys.

Joe Bob has it right. It's pronounced chee ohw ch.

Ciocc = Church

Giovanni Pelizzoli says so, and he is Ciocc.

You do realize this is a two-day ride? 100 one day and a 100 the next. Some people ride it as a double (all 200 one day) but most split it into two so they PARTY-ON at the mid-point! :D

Yes, I know can ride the first 100 but didn't have a cheap, easy way to get back to my car in Seattle from wherever with my bike.

herr_oberst 06-12-2013 07:28 AM

Chris, the Portland Wheelmen offer a shuttle service - 65 bucks for you and your bike from Portland to Seattle (right to the Udub campus) Friday or Monday. Eezy Peezy!

(There are other options, too. You should take a look at the STP website. Plenty of good ideas, if you might be interested for next year! The more Pelicans that ride, the more fish we can stuff in our beaks!)(I have no idea what that means.)

In prior years, STP registration has been re-opened in the last month - that is because the deadline for cancellations/refunds is June 13 so by then they have a stock of cancelled registrations to re-use. I do not know if they will do that again, but it would be worth checking back at the STP site starting June 13th.

Also, I bought a registration for my wife and there is some chance she will bow out. I'll let this thread know if that happens. Tickets also get put up on Craigslist sometimes. In theory they are not resellable but once you get the registration packet, no-one checks ID at the ride.

Chris, in my experience if you can do a flat 100 without being crushed at the end, then you can do another flat 100 the next day. You start the first day super early and get done pretty early, like mid-afternoon, so you have plenty of time to recover. Then you take your sweet time on the second day.

If I guessed wrong, keep in mind that my BMX days were 30+ years ago. ;) And after looking at your other pics, I must say, nice collection!
