Only at the Tour Down Under! Leader Jay Vine attacked by kangaroos. He said they tend to hide in the bushes and jump out at the last minute. In this case, 2 of them jumped into the peloton traveling at 50/kph. I wanted to laugh but realized the one kangaroo was injured and limped away.

Well that's very unfortunate. I hope someone tracks the injured roo down and does the right thing by it.

Tucked away in Huntsville, Texas, master frame builder Hans Schneider quietly builds and repairs some of the finest bicycles in the world. Known internationally for his precision steel bike frames and meticulous frame repair work, Schneider creates fully custom bicycles by hand—drawing each frame full-scale on a drafting board and fitting riders through real-world rides, not software alone.

Cyclists from around the globe seek out Schneider for his deep understanding of ride quality, geometry, and durability. His reputation for excellence has earned the trust of legendary builders like Colnago, whose high-end frames are repaired and refurbished in this small Texas workshop instead of being shipped back to Italy. Built from modern high-tensile steel, Schneider’s frames prioritize longevity, ride feel, and structural integrity over fleeting weight savings—often weighing only grams more than titanium while lasting tens of thousands of miles.

This Texas Country Reporter story explores why elite cyclists, professional racers, and collectors value steel bicycles, custom frame building, and craftsmanship rooted in experience. From repairing frames connected to cycling icons like Eddy Merckx to rejecting the industry’s throwaway mindset, Hans Schneider proves that some of the world’s best bikes aren’t made in factories—they’re built slowly, carefully, and by hand.

That almost looks like a shock absorber seat post of some type. The technology is changing so fast these days that after a year or so, everything is obsolete.

Just saw the other day that they have braided cord (Berd) spokes now! Who'd have thought.

No, not really. I can't remember the last time I saw that post or those tri-bars.

They might still be out there, maybe someone still races triathlon with a converted road bike, but I'm pretty sure that most people who would have a use for one these days just buys the fancy Triathlon bike. (Disclaimer, I'm not involved in tri at all, but tri people are gear junkies as a rule)

Better, faster. (Not cheap, though!)

OK thanks, Herr O.

A few of my buddies and I got them to help us with more comfortable posture in use with the DH bars while on our local riding.

None of us were really into racing or events except my one buddy, CC.

Me, pre-curved seat post:

CC, w/his curved seat post:

He did everything....bi, tri, and just running events.
