Thanks for the lead. I found another brand - very light - out of Japan and ordered but now thinking to get the Origin 8 too. The angle / bends look good on the Origin.

Byron- Had no idea how hot the vintage BMX market is.
NOS Hutch grips.... crazy as buying a correct Klein screwdriver for the 356!

I built this bike 2 years ago and I've never really ridden it. I rode it 13.66 miles today. Still under a 100 miles on the odometer.

Finished building the wheelset for my son's next bike. Campy Veloce 9 spd hubs, Mavic Open Pro rims, DT Swiss Competition butted spokes, 32H 2 cross front and 32H 3 cross rear. Since he weighs like 100 lb, these should be bullet-proof.
Came out nicely. I don't have dial indicators for the truing stand but the lateral runout is about business card thickness. The vertical is a bit larger. Rightly or wrongly, I focus more on lateral, as I figure the tire and road surface should make a couple business cards' thickness worth of out of roundness . . . irrelevant. This is my fifth wheelset build. It gets easier and faster each time. I really enjoy building wheels. |

Nice, how do you like it? I converted my 26er SS to geared and gave it to a buddy's kid, so now I need a 29er SS. Must be steel and rigid. So far, I have narrowed it down to Niner, On One, and Surly. Already own (and love) a 1x10 geared Surly Karate Monkey, so I'm looking to go in a different direction.

A bike shop has a used Cannondale Jekyll 700 full suspension MTB. Headshok fork with lockout. Some sort of Fox rear shock with lockout. Hayes hydraulic disc brakes. Shimano XT and XTR drivetrain. 19" aluminium frame, kind of a muddy green. Looks nearly new, save one big scrape on a brake lever. I rode it briefly.
Hmm. I've never had a full suspension bike. I'd kind of like to try one, without spending a ton. Some quick research says it is probably a 2001 or close (though specs say Magura brakes), weighs 28 lb, was a USA-made Cannondale. Whaddya think? They want $650. Is the Headshok still serviceable? I had a Jekyll with the Lefty.
Decent all round bike. Was a crappy climber though, lots of wheel flop. It did downhill quite well. I think there are still parts available for their stuff. I remember having to do rear bushings a couple of times.

Personally I would avoid any bike with an EBB. Surly's horizontal drops can be a pain too (having to move the caliper for a tire change). The On One has sliding drops.....best SS solution in my opinion.

I haven't used the bike off road yet, other than a small section of easy single trail. Luckily I live near a bike trail that offers a nice 13+ mile door to door loop which gives me a great cardio work out with a ss. I usually try to pound it out as fast as I can. So far I really am impressed with it, although it does have a really nice build kit. I'll get it off road soon and see how I like it there. It's been along time since I've ridden fully ridged off road. If I was buying custom I'd probably go with a Soulcraft, with a non suspension adjusted ridged fork. Dean
