I picked up this beauty Tuesday. The online bike couldn't make it here in time for our family vacation, so I cancelled it. I got this at a LBS on sale. It is a 2016 Giant Defy Advanced 1. The wheels are heavy (3K Grams), but I won't get another set until after I lose another 10lb off my fat azz. It felt awkward with the bars up so high, especially no-handed. I lowered them & flipped the stem, feels a lot better. I'm getting used to the disc brakes, now I'm glad I got them.

My old(ish) neighbour has one of those.
I eye it every time he rides up or down the street doing his volunteer work canvassing for some cause. I'd like to get it in a few years when he can no longer ride.

The Super Six Evo did we me well again last weekend. My 13 year old's Specialized is suiting him well, but he will likely be hoping for an upgrade next season...
Post race pic after some cleaning up from the rather poor weather...

I watched the movie about that race while I was training
I felt inadequate... But motivated!

Sometimes mother nature takes, and other times she gives back apparently
For those who have followed my epic crash training program and rise from couch potato to double century finisher
(this thread http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/912909-cycling-training-advice-2-x-century.html ) You will remember my brutal return leg of that journey. Well, here was this mornings routine ride (I'm trying to stick to this routine and make it a lifestyle, riding to the mountain lookout and back). I was off to a bit of a slow start, knots in my back waking up, disorganized but eventually I got out the door and headed for the hills. Seems there must have been a bit of a tailwind that I didn't notice once I got out of the mountains. Sometimes mother nature takes, and other times she gives back apparently How the hell did I maintain this speed of around 70km/hr all alone? I rode strong, but I can only imagine if i was as strong as some of you. I felt like I was a ready for the tour de France. I wish I could do this normally. Maybe some of you can regularly ride 45 mph, but I can't. Made my day! (This is one way. The dips in the second half are stoplights, and one way was 26.7kms that took 1:54:14 including the mountains)

Really doubt you averaged 70 km/hr (43 mph) through your undulating mountains - TdF pros average 25-28 mph on the flats, less in the hills.
In fact, your graph shows an *instantaneous* speed rather than an *average*. Good story though... Last edited by wrpeterson; 06-29-2016 at 10:32 AM.. |

Not average, and not downhills, but point in time under my own power (where the blue dot is).
The spikes on the left of the red line are fast downhills where the bike goes wooooo and scares the crap outa me. (The tallest spike to the red dot the red line represents a point in time speed of 108km/hr downhill) The speed indicated on the right of the red line is after the hills, measured at a point in time. You can compare that point to similar points. (probably best to ignore the left of the red line info since most of those speed were coasting downhill. What I am referring to is the area to the right of the red line out on the flats and slight inclines where i was pedalling my ass off.) Like I said, I'm not taking credit, I'm chalking it up to a tail wind. Mother nature owed me a tail wind after that last brutal ride.

Nice to be able to collect and its a heck of a lot of fun too. That's the one reason I never look at those things. The next time around, you aint gonna be so lucky and she collect more then she gives. I don't remember the last time I did 45? I can kill average 22 on the flats for 20 miles (maybe a little more) and I am done. getting up in the 25s, I am done in a mile. Pack up and go home. With the group, I can go and hide and shield from the wind and cruise and have lunch
Sound like you really enjoy riding. Now, go and ride that Bianchi. Its a lot faster. New bike is always faster and I bet your climb will be faster and effortless. |

Nothing compared to the 50km/hr headwind she threw at me for 5 hours of my 10.5 hour ride on the century ![]() My bianchi is sitting in the basement on wheels ready for parts to be thrown at it, BUT...my twin plug engine for my RSR was delivered this week so Bianchi Shmianchi, I'm heading to the garage! ![]() P.S. At least she didn't pull a schleck on me and pick me up and body slam me to the ground.

So...
26.7 km in just under two hours - looks like an 8mph total... Moving speed higher of course. Not trying to be a dick, but your statement: "How the hell did I maintain this speed of around 70km/hr all alone?" doesn't seem to be what you did... I just finished a 150-mile two day ride at a 14.6 mph moving average (about 6k worth of climbing) - not anywhere near your 45 mph highs, but well above your average speed? |
