Crazy Spoon Prices

This will be like those threads with the stupid Ebay vehicles. I'll start:

$5000 for a semiauto AK-47 and accessories, and 2K rounds of ammo.

Shooter

It is an Arsenal AK, but still! Wow!!!

Just like Ebay or the classifieds here, you can list something for 10x the street value. It is a free country. Maybe you get lucky, likely you don't.

It seems to me that everyone's beater semi-auto "assault weapon" is coming out of the closet currently. Many people have dozens of them and are trying to make a quick buck on their worst examples.

But who buys them? Everyone that feels the need for owning such a gun bought one long time ago, after the last ban expired or after Obama's first term started. This fact should regulate price within reason IMHO as these weapons are only changing hands from one guy's safe as #12 into another guy's safe as his #3.

I'm seeing AR receivers going for 3x what they were selling for from the manufacturers. And they are selling on gun-broker. I don't think the $5K AK is going to sell, unless someone is desperate.

Some people that like to build rifles for a hobby may feel like stocking up on lowers is a good idea, even at $300 a piece. That's easier to do that shell out $5k at one time.

Egads! I just took a quick look at gunbroker. I can sell a few G17 mags for more than I paid for the spoon and mags a few years ago.

Pretty optimistic people out there. I saw the AR that I picked up in Dec selling for well over double what I paid for it. $15 magazines selling for $50. Nutty.

I haven't stepped into a gun store since the massacre here in CT. I'm waiting, (and may be a VERY long wait), for things to subside.

I was in a shop today, and they were asking $5000 for a Colt MT6400R! Insane. $1000 for run of the mill AK variants.

The gun dealers are feeding you FUD and cleaning your wallets, laughing all the way to the bank. Just like they did to you 4 years ago, but apparently you've all too willingly forgotten.

Check out the scumbags at Cheaper Than Dirt, if you want to be horrified. Not only are their prices jacked up to high heaven, but they also lie about the MSRP to make it look like they're not ripping you off.

I think I will be patient in buying. Like any boom, I suspect there will be a bust like happened to my house in Las Vegas that lost 65% of it's value.

Nowhere near sanity yet. Was at Turners today to preview a revolver that my Dad is thinking about. Not a single semi-automatic handgun/rifle to be found. The ammo shelves were bare of EVERYTHING other than super pricey .308/.40 and 12 gauge.

I have some sympathy for the retailers who have to raise their prices because they can't restock. Their cost of doing business doesn't go down just because they can't get inventory. For the gun stores that don't have a range attached to them, how else can they keep the doors open? Scottsdale Gun Club looked like a Soviet-era supermarket last week when I was in there - bare shelves, walls, cases and with people waiting in line.

The ranges are hurting also because they cant get ammo.
