I have driven several of the 50 R spec's, Really nice cars, they drive nice and I would say they are better than the Honda Accord, just about on par with the Acura TL SH. Except the Hyundai has way more power. My wife just bought a new Acura TL but I had her look at the Genesis and Azera. She really liked the Hyundai Azera https://www.hyundaiusa.com/azera/

The Genesis coupe is a style car, but... it is a Hyundai. For me, Hyundai will always have a cheap, unreliable stigma attached to it, ala the original Excels...

Ok - based on that, Hyundai still has about 30 years to go, eh?

I remember when the original Excel came out - junk. I never thought I would consider a Korean car. I think the 100,000 mile warranty really forced them to improve quality. Can you imagine BMW offering a 100K warranty - they'd spend a fortune on claims.

The Base 2.0T model weighs just under 3300 pounds which seems a bit heavy to me. Thirty MPG (highway) out of 274 horse power does not sound too shabby, though.

Having outed myself as a Hyundai booster let me say this about that...

(I spend a lot of time looking at cars on-line... and...)

If I had your budget...

Yes, Boxter and Cayman can be had for that... but then there is the "Porsche tax"= spark plug wire set for water cool 4 banger Miata $39 - spark plug set for water cooled 4 banger 944 $109.

I want to like the V6 300HP Mustang really really bad... but I (and my family) have had bad experiences with Ford iron in the past and my coworker is fixing/selling off his Ford... and the rear end styling on the Mustang is (pardon the pun) butt ugly. Deal killer for me.

I LOVE the Subie/Scion BRZ/FRS but they are down on HP compared to the Genesis and they are early in their development (never buy anything the first year or two it comes out).

That is my story and I'm sticking to it!

Well, I drove a base 2.0T (274 HP and 275 lb ft Tq at 2000 RPM) with a manual transmission. The interior was better than I imagined (nice materials) though not as nice as my 325i. Good sport seats. Steering was nicely weighted, shifter was good though not as slick as a Honda tranny. Plenty of power with just a bit of turbo lag (as mentioned in the reviews).

I liked it more than I thought I would, the base model does not come with a rear wing which is good in my opinion. I also liked the fact that the engine compartment was not a sea of plastic covers but that you can actually see (and work) on the engine. I'd lose the practicality of my four door bimmer, that would be tough.

I'm not going to consider another car until next year which will give me time to think about it.
Very nice car...

I like my BMWs but with the 7, I got tired of things breaking every other week and with the roadster, I was afraid of the same with it running out of warranty.

The Lazy-H badge certainly doesn't have the prestige of the Roundel but that is not why I bought the car... and Hyundai/Kia has come a long way since they were the laughing stock of the auto industry.

I would by with confidence and enjoy. Don't expect positive reviews from a Porsche or BMW forum because you won't get it... If you need convincing from the internet, there are a couple of good Genesis Forums
For the last 10 years my DD was a BMW X5, 3 different ones to be specific. Last February, I changed things up and bought a new fully loaded Hyundai Santa Fe Sport.

Buy the car with confidence. But make sure you can work with "bubba" behind the service desk.

When I googled BRZ (just to make sure these old brain cells had the correct three letters) a bunch of aftermarket upgrade ads popped up too.

75 more HP than the SubiYota twins with a turbocharged engine, which means more power is just an ECU flash away. If you can put your snobbery aside Hyundai builds a great car.

No snobbery here, I think they have come a long way as a car company and they have the best warranty around, Im just not a fan personally.

JUst to get back to KNS's original post "What about this car for a mid-forties guy..?" I'm a late 40s guy and on impulse bought a Dinan M3, suspension mods super charger etc. pretty much dragged through the Dinan parts dept. Anyway, like the car, it's a bit overweight but handles well it's reasonably fast and looks good. That said that particular model (E46 M3) has an adolescent following and I have to admit that it bothers me from time to time. Lots of thumbs up from the 20 something crowd. It's not a HUGE deal. but it does bother me if I have to pick up a client or go to a meeting w/ co-workers. It's not an adult car. If you can live with that (I expect it will start to wear on you) go for it. Something to consider.

Only problem is Hondas, Toyotas and Nissans have been good reliable cars for at least 30 years now.

I'd like to see Hyundai put some money in to an F1 team and shake the stigma.

That's exactly the sort of thing that has crossed my mind. Plenty of adults own an E46 like I drive now but it also has a big following with kids. The Genesis Coupe may be even more so. That (and less practicality) is the main thing holding me back, everything else I like.

I haven't studied what you could get instead, but a new black one was right next to me, yesterday, and it was stunningly beautiful!
