Certainly NOT the most beautiful but this car changed everything.
The original shape was the best. The later cars with their add-ons looked horrid.

Design v. Style. One designs in a style. How's that?
It doesn't work the other way around. |

How do I know...
I dig facets. I also dig rounded shapes.

I can dig facets sometimes, but the Lambos just seem too discordant or disproportionate. To me they look like a 10 year old boy tried to make a plastic model of a Pantera (I like the Pantera a lot) and failed badly, then added a wing from a toy jet to the back. The scoops looked tacked-on and none of the pieces seem to go together. Not to mention it wasn't a very good chassis.
Miura is good, Murcielego is good, Aventador is ok, but they are starting to get weird again with the Veneno.

It should of perhaps been just a bit larger and wider. Perhaps you guys can post your wifes pics or girlfriends so that we can understand your taste first.

It's ALFA... ALFA... ALFA
Not 'Alpha'. Stay in during recess and write it 50 times on the blackboard! Common mistake. Beautiful car. Last edited by tcar; 08-04-2013 at 04:55 PM.. |

There is not one pencil or brush stroke wasted on this. As nearly perfect as you can get. May not be the best overall design, but it is an exercise in restraint. It is for the same reason that the XKE is held is such high reverence.
But I'll give the best of best to the tail end of the Alfa. That is pure sex leaving as you stand there. |

Jaguar E-type roadster, especially series I
The New York City Museum of Modern Art recognized the significance of the E-Type's design by adding a blue roadster to its permanent design collection. Here's an entertaining take on the E-type's 50th birthday on Top Gear (the orig. UK version, not the US pale imitation): https://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=775642129979 And some photos of the first one: ![]()

Great topic, many interpretations of the question.
For me, I have a particular love/hate with the E Type. I've always liked it but never really appreciated it until I bought that huge book (ref needed) defining all things E Type. They are the Spitfire of the road, all English and monocoque coolness. An epoch defining automobile. Beautiful in a wind tunnel and stunning when you lift the hood. Truly beautiful. But they are not sympathetic for those who choose to drive them. When I say that, take a look at pics of people driving roadsters. They look silly and too big for the vehicle. Coupes maybe get away with it, but roadsters insult the driver. I started to wonder what cars make drivers look ok . Observation = All 911's, Cobras, Gullwings. Probably most Ferraris. Lotus. The answer is to position the driver low in the vehicle, at shoulder level.
