Handyman tri-five wagons are a personal favorite. I especially like 56's with the least favorite being a 55'. It would all come down to, how nice is the body?As all 2 door tri-five wagons are stupid expensive. A great body is a good starting point,
That would be great with a Morrison chassis complete with LS engine and proper manual transmission.

I'm in the process of pricing/buying up-dated technology for my 65 Mustang.
Prices are not too bad for individual bits but..... for instance:

All numbers are approximates
Front disc brakes- $1k
Rear disc brakes-$1K
rack & pinion (non power)-$1k
Coil over front suspension-$3k
Subframe connectors- $500.00ish
Rear coil overs-$1K....I may just tie down the leaf springs & save 5 hundred.
I haven't done any serious shopping for wheels & tires as yet but 2k seems about right.

As you can see the volume of stuff gets to ya and this is just to get the thing to handle/drive worth spit. The really pricy bits are in the driveline. I'll worry about that after I choke down this other stuff.

The good news is that the body work/paint is decent driver quality.....a 10 footer. .....

JP, that's a great looking fastback. I would say that your prices are probably too high, for instance you can get a rear disc conversion through Summitt for under $500. If you haven't already search for Mustang in OT, there are multiple great threads on building a street/autoX classic Mustang. Jim Brenmer is a great resource.

welded in a new mustang II front suspension with power rack and 11" disks, new power booster and m/c, new motor mounts, new trans crossmember, new gauges, new wiring harness, new tail lights, new underdash brake pedal mount, new rear shocks and mounts, used (less than 20k miles) 350 with 350turbo, new power steering pump, radiator and electric fan, steering linkage, headers and exhaust and about a million trips to parts houses... I've got less than $9k in this. including the $4k paid for the body.. still a ways to go but it's getting there. I need a set of shorter front tires and an alignment now. got most of the bugs worked out and ready to put the hood back on. it's a lot of work and time but it's what I like to do. I've probably got 3-4 months work in it but it sat there maybe 6 yrs between start and where it's at now. the brakes will put you thru the windshield and with 1 1/4 turns lock to lock, it turns... quick..

Yes, one can these bits cheaper, but I like quality stuff. If you can get Wilwood brakes.....and not top of the line ( with a dual master clyinder) for less, I wanna know where. Same for a Bilstein front coil over setup, with improved geometery via newly designed/ fabricated A arms.
If you buy all your Porsche parts at K Mart, I don't wanna hear about it.

Fair enough, it's your money. Just wanted to illustrate the fact that your prices were not indicative of typical classic Mustang parts, which are silly cheap even for quality name brand stuff.

Yes, I've done enough rootin' around on the Mustang internet sites to find out what is "typical"....."quaility" is a whole nother thing. No Mustang II/Granada stuff for me, thanks.

I have an ex bro in law that has stupid money......he owns a piece of the California Chicken franchise thingy with his SC frat buddies.

Anyways, he has a 65 poontang 'vert, with the total pony package. Full off retro fix up with 4 wheel discs and all the 'fixes'......still handle like a truck.

Mustangs from the 60s don't handle worth a damn, they were built off the Fairlane platform IIRC.

Does good in a straight line, sloppy syrup in the corners.

He also owns a 928.

332 or 352 were the stock choices but a 429? Sleeper torque monster. Those are cheap to build and get 600 HP. Stroke it gets you to a 460 c.i. First car was a 59 Galaxie 500. Same looking car as in the movie 'The Killers' starring Ronald Reagan.

The PO had a towing company. He built it with a engine he acquired from another car. According to my buddy who told me about it being for sale it has won several awards at local car shows.
