This morning I permanently fixed the IMSB on my 996 C4S - see below for a fool-proof solution - this is 100% effective, something even Jake Raby can't claim:

Thanks Fred

Since these things were new, I've dreamed of a Lapis Blue 996tt with heated seats and lumbar adjustment (simple pleasures, maybe, but my back is sometimes cranky). My stable was already pretty full, but the exact car I've wanted happened to pop up in a random Craigslist scan. A local Craigslist scan. It had everything I was after, and only 43K on the clock. I PPIed the car myself - it just needs a coolant tank. Well, full stable be damned - when was an opportunity like this gonna come up again? The seller delivered it this morning, really nice guy. He's now hunting for a GT-2.

The amount of car-per-dollar to be had in the 996tt is unbelievable - I was thrilled to pay what I did for the car, and it is just blindingly fast.

This means that my '05 C4S and my '86 928S have both got to go - the C4S is already up in the classifieds if anyone is interested. It is a great car, too!

Some more pictures of my "IMSB permanent solution":

Awesome car and it looks great in blue! Much better than silver or the more typical colors IMO.

Latest excellence has an interview with a Porsche honcho (forgot his name) who agrees those cars' interiors have not aged well. Not so much build quality but "material choice"... No kidding... Mind you the console controls on 987/997 aren't any better and peel off right away too.
I'd make an exception for that turbo however ;-)

I'll give the 997/987 the edge in looks and percieved luxury, but having done cosmetic repair work on both the 986/996 and 987/997, I'll take the 996/986 all day long. The 996 interior is not very luxurious but it wears like iron. The 997 looks nicer but does not wear well, and they didn't improve it until they eliminated most of the soft touch materials in 2009. I have spent a lot of money replacing scratched soft touch plastic pieces on the 987/997, and I had a neglected 1997 986 with 135k that after a good detail looked like new.

As for turbos, I bought my first 996TT yesterday. 2003 with 67k, Polar Silver over Metropol Blue, full leather, supple leather, and best of all......sunroof delete! It was actually an option to delete the standard sunroof, I've never seen one for sale though there are a couple of RL members who have one. It should arrive within a few weeks.

I'm going to agree 100%. I haven't had the pleasure with a 997.2, but having poked around under the hood of a 997.1, they are just re-skinned 996s. I am fine with the 996 interior, especially the full leather option. Whether my 43K 996tt or the 103K C4S, both have extremely clean interiors- they seem to wear really well.

The silver on Metropol Blue 996tt sounds stunning - we'll need pics and maybe a family photo or two. Like this:

Nice picture Dave, too bad you can't keep both.

If you worked on a 997 you'd find even more similarities. The guts of both cars are nearly identical, the 997 is just a tweak and facelift.

You can store the 996 at my house, then it doesn't go against your count and you can come where it's warm and play with it when you get tired of snow.
