Guitar guys

Excellence (Dec) has a good article on guitar builder and old car guy Jol Dantzig in
this months issue. I'm not really a guitar guy, but I do appreciate the workmanship.

My brother had an old guitar since the '50's (I think) and gave it to our nephew a long time ago. I'll see if I can get a picture of it. It's a Les Paul (maybe)

A 50s Les Paul might be a worthwhile keeper.

I remember the case being like that., All funeral parlour looking, with crushed velvet like that.

I'll try to get a picture. I know he got it at an after hours bar of some sort. Bought it or won it or stole it, you know barroom kinda thing.

No picture yet

While waiting I asked my brother about his guitar, hoping he could remember. "Oh damn, I wish I'd never given that guitar away."

It was a 1959 or 1960 Les Paul Junior double cutaway, single Humbecker, with two knobs. Solid red cherry colored body.

So...I found one on Ebay and it's exactly like his, from what I can remember. So I'll post that for now.

I lurked on this message board for years, but finally had to register to compliment Slodave on his 59 LP build. Still my favorite PPOT thread. Awesome!

Looks like an Epiphone Coronet. I confess I cheated a little. I couldn't remember the name but I knew it was in my vintage guitar book.

As to the 59 LP Jr. Double cutaway? Ouch! Probably worth $4-5K these days if it was in good condition and unmolested by guitar mods.

One of these would cost a kidney and a testicle wouldn't it?

Nope not a Coronet. You missed it by one model. It is a 1959------.

A Wilshire? I never saw one in this body style. Most are asymmetrical and look more strat-like with p90s. I'd say that is a keeper.

Yes it is a Wilshire. Most Coronets have only one pickup. Wilshires have two P-90s.This guitar has typical Gibson wiring center position is noise canceling. Gibson took over Epiphone in 1957.The sound of this Epiphone/Gibson is awesome. Plays as well as any of my newer instruments.
