A very nice LP Jr.
I have a similar family hand-me-down from 1955:

Sorry about the poor quality, it's a photo of a photo (you get the picture) as I couldn't bring it to PPOT from my e-mail.

Wish it was mine!
I wish it were mine, too! Too bad your brother gave it away. I hope it's at least appreciated.

Not so sure about that. He gave it to his (our) nephew who probably does appreciate it, but my brother gave it away a long time ago when he thought he was getting old (about 25 yrs ago) so he's in his 70's now and still play drums and/or sax 2 or 3 times a week.

I think he regrets giving it away too soon, is all.

I heard of Gtretch but don't know much about them other than the fact that Randy Bachman (The Guess Who) collects them. So they must be good.

There is something really special about the slabs of mahogany that Gibson was using in the mid-late '50s.

When they did the song (Let it ride,) I played the intro on all my guitars and the Gretsch was the winner. It sounded close to the recording. So I think he might have been playing it while recording that song. The Gretsch's have that nice bright twangy sound that I like. I was sold on Gretsch. It is not for everyone. George Harrison used them The rhythm guitarist from AC DC uses one on all those driving rhythms Chris Issac , Chet Atkins Brian Setzer , Stephen Stills Peter Townsend used one on Won't get fooled again.,

Like this one.

Hope that dog keeps his distance.

I don't have a clue why I'm posting here at all as I know much more about that dog than I do about guitars, but I'm learning to apprerciate these beautiful works of art more and more with each post.

Yellow,
They are works of art and fine craftsmanship, and each of the well-worn guitars has a story to tell. I am a player and not really a collector but I appreciate their artistry and they are much easier to store and maintain than a garage full of Porsches. During the depths of our great recession, I read somewhere that 50s and 60s vintage American guitars were one of the few asset classes that continued to appreciate in value. I'm ok with that.

Some of the mid 80s hand made Rickenbackers Limited editions were bringing in good money as well. I purchased a few of them and hit a home run as far as increasing value however I did not buy them just for that reason if I did I would sell them now but I am just not ready to do so. I still enjoy playing them and appreciate them as works of art.
