>>>Look. You guys act like I go 60 mph in the left lane, blocking traffic. Like there are minivans on my ass trying to get by.
No folks. I'm talking 85mph (see note) on an open road taking the 210 east at 11pm at night. <<< It doesn't matter who or when people try to pass you. As you said earlier: "I drive in the left lane. I dictate the pace. If you want to pass me on the right, you had better have some HP, 'cause I'll floor it when you try. I do this all the time. It's a blast. I usually win, of course." If you're keeping someone from going the speed they want because you're hogging the far left lane, then you're the slower traffic. What part of slower traffic keep right don't you understand? |

Besides the other good points raised, driving in the left lane increases the chance of a speeding ticket. Make your pass, than get back in the right lane with the other cars - there's safety in numbers! And if somebody wants to pass? Be my guest! Now I've got somebody running interference for me! -- Curt

I try to be considerate/defensive and let people pass if they are going faster. It is a very common occurence that people speed up some when you try to pass (usually on a two lane road), but I find most times they lack conviction, so I just put the right pedal down a little farther and pass them. Only once that I remember has anyone ever really tried to keep me from passing. He failed but gave it a valiant effort. This was long ago in a non P-car. I try to be a little better than that these days. The traffic is bad enough without me making it worse.

keep right
Hey, for the slow (of wit) we even had signs where I grew up in Connecticut that said KEEP RIGHT EXCEPT TO PASS. State law.
From the way a lot of people drive I don't guess they teach that in driver's ed any more. Maybe trolling for ricers after dark is a legitimate excuse, but I sure get tired of cars just sitting in the left lane no matter how fast they're going.

Kurt, I used to enjoy your posts on flogging ricers, but that has to be one of the most assenine things I've seen on this board. I had thought you were getting targeted for having a shiny red porsche. Now you're telling us that you sit in the left lane, pissing everyone off, and giving everyone who wants to go 86+ the choice of sitting on your ass or risking death?
Just want to make sure I'm clear on this. Jared

I always thought leftlane bandits are jerks and never tried to be one. But left lane bandits who won't even let you pass ... hmm, that is some attitude.

Hmm...it must be something to do with US driving-license test being too easy.
I must humbly admit that i tried six (6) times before i got mine (And no, i'm not a bad driver...never had a accident, never been charged.)The thing is, driving schools here in sweden are trying to hammer special kind of behaviour in pupils heads: - Drive defensivly - Plan your driving - Help each other ...plus heaps of other safety stuff. Here, it takes time & money to get license, and it's easy to loose it. OTH, I believe that americans depend more on their cars then we do, so introduction of tough driving test policy would probably recieve bad publicity in US.

Goran -
Here in the states, you take your life into your own hands when you pull out of your driveway. There is only one word you need to brand onto your forehead that will make you understand this country. Capitalism. Motor vehicle traffic in this country is a monsterous industry. You CANNOT keep people out of there motor vehicles. This would take money from the police, taxes from the state, revenue from fuel....you get the picture. Where else would the greedy government ticket a driver in a car equiped with airbags for not wearing a seat belt, but have no law making a motorcyclist were a helmet.

Seems like just a year ago that Kurt was spouting some ludicrous bull that he expected us to just grin and high-five him for.
Oh wait...

Hmm, after reading these posts from everyone, I've determined one thing:
Rice is rice, not matter what you're driving: Honda or Porsche. Kurt: your attitude is SOOO rice, it's not funny. So, why are you bringing yourself down to their level with your driving antics? What are you trying to prove by it? Just try and do that at a PCA Driver's Ed event on the track: you'll be black-flagged so fast, it will make your head spin! But what do I know, I only drive a 944. ![]() -Zoltan.
