So far so good. It's a stiff suspension and corners surprisingly well. Came with Bilstein shocks as part of the TRD package.

When this thread was started, I had a (former rental truck) 2000 F-150 with 90k on it. Still have it. Here is a list of the non-routine items I have had replaced since then: * insert value here*.

See if you can find a Fluid Film or Krown rust proofer in your area.

You will thank yourself in a few years.

Almost 2 years in and 35k miles the Tundra had it's second part failure. The "check engine" light came on so I put the scanner on it an it came up "evaporative emissions leak." The gas cap has been acting funny for a couple of months - no "click" when you screw it down - so I figured that was the problem. It's still under warranty so I took it to the dealer. After an hour of "diagnostics" they concluded - the gas cap is bad. Other than that I'm liking the truck. It's got a few scrapes and scratches on it now, so it' looking like real truck.

Man forgot all about this thread! Long story short I've ended up in a '17 Tundra.

WD you MUST buy and install the TRD rear sway bar for your truck. It absolutely transforms the handling of the truck and IMO makes it handle more like the first gen trucks which I felt were very underappreciated in their handling. Less than $300 for the part!

On mine I've also added the TRD dual exhaust which I enjoy. no performance gain really and some say might cost some low end but having put mine on, taken it off for stock and then put it back on again I've decided I like it and will keep it on. shop carefully and you can get it for about $1k. easy install.

Mine too has about 35k on it and has been flawless. I have struggled with leather seat comfort even to the point of installing factory cloth (bought an entire new cloth interior in black on ebay for a great price) but went back to leather for ease of cleaning. I've also changed from the original Limited look to several of the parts from the factory Pro model.

18 months ago I might have been all over that. With the single exhaust there is a VERY annoying 1200 RPM exhaust drone that about had be ready to wear plugs. Somehow I've gotten used to it and I hardly notice it any more.

Just went over 90K on my 2015 Tundra, almost 20k of that towing (I keep track).

No issues.

Sparks Parts and Toyota of Cool Springs are great resources for parts. They sell at a good discount from MSRP.

One other thing I forgot to mention...if you DIY your oil changes (I do) the factory skid plate is a PITA. I swapped to the Pro skid plate which has an access panel for the oil filter so you're only removing 4 bolts and dropping a 4" x 6" plate rather than the entire skid.

you know I drove a '17 SR5 when I was shopping and found the same drone! strangely my '17 limited didn't do it. a buddies '15 SR5 also has no drone with stock exhaust. I really can't explain it as the parts are the same. The Pro exhaust does not drone but if you look you'll find some who say it does. not sure if it is a variance in tuning or exhaust parts or what. if you're so inclined you can probably find a stock exhaust for free. Mine is just sitting in the rafters of my garage in case I trade to a newer model but at this point I'm pretty sure that ain't happening.

have you tried the tow/haul button yet? IIRC Toyota changed the regular throttle mapping on the new design (starting in '14 or '15) to be much less aggressive. pushing 'tow/haul' is like a boost button.

paul before you install you'll want to put some rubber gasket or spacer material at a couple points on it. after certain mileage the pro plate will creak entering driveways and such due to the design of how it sits against the crossmember at the rear mounting points. mine took several thousand miles to start creaking but we just dropped it and put chair leg pad thingies at a couple points and no more creak.

also be aware the last drips of oil can drip onto the pan itself. after a few oil changes with the pro plate I'm now going to set some manner of shield up there when draining.

if you look at this pic of a pro plate you'll want the rubber material (doesn't need to be thick could even be washers) where you see the rubbing at the bottom of the pic.

I missed this thread originally, but in the interim bought a 2002 Tundra. I've had it for about 1.25 years. It's got 140k miles on it. Interior is like new - paint is a 9/10. Had a new timing belt and brakes done at 125k miles (right before I bought it). The suspension was shot, so I put the ride-height adjustable Bilsteins on it (and spent a whopping $17 on new front sway bar links as both of mine were broken). I had to put a battery in it and new tires.

No CEL codes and no frame rust. I've got $8750 in it (including the tires).

Yes, I've used it a few times. It's fairly flat around here and I don't have any trouble keeping ahead of traffic unless I'm hauling something heavy like gravel, but the local gravel pit is only 6 miles away. I do need 4WD and boost button to get up out of the pit. I put in about 5000 miles this winter in front of my 18' car hauler with varying loads in some really crappy weather - no problems at all.

The plot thickens:
They put a new gas cap on and the truck still showed a big evaporative emissions system leak. They pumped smoke into the system and it came out above the gas tank - probably the worst place it could be. Checking with a mirror they found what they believe is rodent damage and they can't do anything about it without dropping the tank. Unbelievably, they say some of the hoses are not serviceable - meaning if it's one of those hoses they have to replace the whole gas tank. I ask, "You mean you may have to replace the gas tank because some rat a hole in a hose?"
"Unfortunately, yes sir."

Oh wow that sucks. Unfortunately rodents are attracted to a lot in new vehicles. Have seen it mentioned on tundra forums as well as other places. Usually wiring.

The stealership wanted $1200 for a whole new exhaust system when a flange rusted out. I had a piece of pipe welded in there for $100...three years ago.

Don't think the "deicer" spray used by Portland isn't corrosive. It's made using magnesium chloride...and is every bit as corrosive as salt water.
