You carry it on your back like a backpack.

...or look like this.

Today I have my old timbuk2 bag. It is so old. Bought it the first year they showed. At the doc office so I loaded up for a long sit.

It seems that the more a murse looks like a small briefcase, toolbag, duffel, etc the less murse-y it looks, and the more man-ly. As I previously noted, there also seems to be a preference for bags that look like military surplus.

However, for convenient carry in the urban jungle, a vertical (portrait) orientation is actually better than the briefcase's horizontal (landscape). Easier to thread through the crowd, squeeze onto a packed train, wiggle between the pregnant (?) ladies on the elevator. And a leather/olive/webbing look doesn't necessarily go with a gentleman's smart outfit, much less a business suit.

So we come to the vertical orientation, glossy leather murses. Is there one that doesn't look like masculine woman's handbag?

I carry this bag when I travel and only need to carry my iPad and some small stuff. Doesn't look all feminine, has a nice padded strap, place for a water bottle. Shame they don't make it any more! Even has a top pouch that my XD would fit in when I was in Louisiana.

Those really look like purses. I mean, to the point it looks like some company said "Those purses aren't moving" and marketing said "Let's call them 'vertical messenger bags' and sell them to men!"

If you're a guy, you've got two options: backpack or canvas messenger/bicycle bag. A backpack is for use when you have to carry a bunch of stuff and you're constantly on the move.

The courier bag is for use only in transit, and doesn't need to go with what you're wearing because once you get where you're going, you'll secure it somewhere. There should be no confluence of events where you're dressed up so much a backpack would look wrong and you're constantly hauling something around.

A bag of stuff you have to carry everywhere you go, to the point it has to match what you're wearing in various situations? Yeah, that's a purse.

What!? You have a WIFE now! You put your stuff in her purse, and then you carry it for her. It was in your vows. Play them backward.

In NW Ohio, we don't have metrosexuals that carry murses. You are obviously trying to bring along too much crap "just in case" you need it.

Man Bag?

This is the very cool proto-hipster look that is/was fashionable in London.
Plenty of space in that man bag.

Here's a pic of me at Disney holding my son with my vertical leather bag. It's a Cole Haan but I don't think they make it anymore. It's about 8 yrs old but has held up really well. When security checked it on the way in to Disney the security guy said "Good morning, sir. Nice purse, sir."

Man this thread is funny....

Did you know you can use your man card to get the yucky stuff from under your manicured nails?

sling back pack

No murse for me. I would prefer a sling backpack by Tumi. Just right for your laptop, cam, IPAD and other stuff.

That, picture is not helping you case!

I have been doing cargo pants... phone, keys, wallet, maybe a small water bottle... I travel light.

Sorry but the one strap backpack was designed for high schoolers who are too cool to wear a regular backpack...

I did have a interesting discussion with some buddies who use the messenger bags to carry their laptops...because apparently laptop back are not cool either.

"It's European!"

Read what the wimmens say about murses... opinions are all over the map, but it doesn't seem to be a huge deal... soccer content for those who care:
* What do you think about the MURSE??

Be secure in your manhood... if you need to carry a bunch of stuff once in awhile, just do it and don't overthink it. The messenger bag seems to be well regarded...
