I'm building an '89 MkIII N/A as a ChumpCar.

We're gonna be big, fat, and slow. I hope my drivers are up to the challenge.

lol, most people cant afford a 60,000 loan on a new car, let alone a toy. You proved my point by paying cash....The people that CAN afford these cars pay cash and wont drop 60 G's on some 21 year old kids hot rodded Supra. Its a moot point either way, $60k financed over a normal 5 year term is well over 1000 per month. Which is why you see so many Camerys and Accords on the road.

No, hardly...unless you want a full blown race car with a parachute. He might as well ask 100k, it wont sell either way for that price.

Speaking of NSX's, one of the guys in the office was looking at those for a few months and he said it was very odd. The same cars seemed to always be listed for sale, at somewhat decent prices but never sold. The owners never dropped their prices and they just sat there. I'm not talking about 1-2, I'm talking ALL the NSX's that were listed in the area.

Seems like people think they are worth $XXXXX, but buyers don't, so both sides sit at an impasse.

When the new NSX comes out it will boost the nostalgia on the old ones and thus, values will go up to meet those buyers...not unlike what's happening with air-cooled 911s right now, especially 993 Turbo S cars.

I bought a Supra.

These are incredible cars and at the time they were being compared to 911 Turbos and Ferraris..and the Supra was frequently beating them in track tests. The specs and features back then are still incredible now: .96-.98G on the skidpad, 68-69MPH in the slalom, 109 ft braking (320mm brakes with 4 pot calipers. The car held the absolute braking record at one magazine until 2002 when a Viper finally bested it), aluminum roof and hood, hollow sway bars, rear wing that makes real downforce, etc.

The engine and mechnaical bits are as over engineered as any ever made. My car with a teeny single turbo (and minimal cash outlay) made 550HP to the wheels and would run away and hide from my buddy's 911 TT with Gemballa 550 kit on it. On 94 octane, I could run 10.8s@138 in the 1/4 mile. This isn't an imaginary or magazine test 10.8..this is real over-and-over at the track 10.8s on street tires. When I really wanted to go fast I put drag radials on with some VP Import and ran 10.30s. These times are still quite impressive and just a hand full of cars on the street can better this.

And it was just as incredible in the twistes. Because of the Fast and Furious, most people thought the Supra was only good for straight lines. Not so. The Supra is an impressive track car too.

Without a doubt the Supra is the most impressive car I've owned and would take one over a 911 TT.

Good perspective Hydrorocket. Why did you sell it?

He probably got tired of every kid in an STI wanting to drag race him because the car is screaming "Hey I'm 21, lets race!"

I'm not rich, so I can only own one very cool car at once, otherwise I'd still have it. Therefore, every spring I'd put it up for sale for an obscene price. I'd had it for 5 years at this point. The first day of the ad some guy called and said he'd be there in the morning to buy it. I'd only heard this a million times. Sure enough though, he arrived with a large stack of cash. Turns out he was from Greece, collected cars, and saw my Supra. The Supra is in Greece now.

Still the only car I've owned that I truly regret selling.

I did the ask an obscene price for my 86 911 this spring too and it sold. Which is why I'm driving a 996 now....a car I'll never get an obscene price for!

I've been lusting after a white, hard-top, no-spoiler, turbo + 6spd Supra since I was 10...

Will never be able to afford one now.

FWIW, My cousin had a TT '93 6spd and he ran circles around many Porsches and Ferraris at Lime Rock.

To Randy P's point... It had 160k mi., was previously a guy from Boston's DD, and ran as hard/clean/smooth as you'd expect from a Yoder

Yep. Yea, it's decent. I had these incredible Vredestein tires. 315s on CCW wheels. Hooked up incredibly well.

When I was still on the stock factory twin turbos, I was able to push the car to 11.40s...which is still very impressive.

If you have to own a Toyota, I'd say get the MR2 Turbo. It looks better and the engine is in the right place...
