Actually I'd like to own a 2nd gen MR2 turbo. I've driven several and they are a blast.

I agree.... But isn't that sort like walking into a group of 911 guys and telling them to buy a boxster?

I've done that too. 986 is probably more fun than a 996.

Once you drive a single turbo Supra, the desire to own an MR2 is gone quickly and forever.

But as we've discussed, single turbo Supras aren't trading under $10k either.

The handling characteristics of the Supra isn't unique...Neither is having big reliable power. It's about as interesting as a high-powered Mustang, imho. The MR2 Turbo is different. Oddly enough, it reminds me a lot of driving an Euro Carrera. But with turbo power. |

I do like supras but I agree that they are somewhere between a japanese mustang and a japanese corvette. Closer to the stang. The novelty is largly due to geography.
The most interesting japanese car of that era is the FD rx7. I love the look and the ethos. The motor of course is the opposite of the supras reliable mill

for clairity I mean more modern mustang or vette. The supra was deffinately light years beyond an early 90s stang.

I'll say that they are interesting, and [relatively] inexpensive and reliable at making big power.
But, they aren't trackday cars (3500 lbs) and aren't quite nice enough inside to compete with high dollar GT cars (really nice for a Toyota, but still a Toyota). 996's aren't exactly worthless or worth gold, but if you could get a 996TT or Supra TT for the same money, which would you choose? They are getting close, and I think that's where Supra pricing will stagnate. |

Not really. It drives like a gutless NSX.

My MR2 is no Ruf, but it will eat NSXs for breakfast. Mine has 1996 JDM engine in it.
I compared it to a Euro Carrera because my MR2 has 280-ish hp and my old '84 had what, 230hp? The driving characteristics of both are pretty unique. Lots of rear bias weight and a very light front end. Tell me. What makes the Supra more interesting to drive than a high powered Mustang? |

I've always loved the Supra. I keep looking for the right one, but most of the ones I see around here and south to Miami are pretty well modded. Some day I'll find the right one. I daily a Lexus SC430...maybe I should put a turbo on it.

All. Day. Long. 2 things I gathered from the post I've quoted and modified: 1: You've not driven a nice, strong, example of a Supra. 2: The "Porsche is better than all" thing is shining through...blindingly, shining through. Park a Supra and a 996TT side by side...you would be disappointed at the attention of the crowd

I didn't realize that attracting the attention of teenagers was a desirable trait? It's one reason why I won't buy an Evo or STi, I don't want every 16 year old in a primered Civic trying to race me. The Fast and Furious franchise made a lot of great cars pretty annoying to own.

I was not referring to teenagers, but car enthusiasts in general.
Agreed regarding F&F... Whats the matter with a 98hp primered civic!?

Dont forget the body kit that remains unpainted for the life of the car.

if you want a bunch of attention on the cheap, buy yourself a 40k exige. I literally get my picture taken nearly everytime I drive it. I try to get gas when it is "quite" so I dont have to answer "how much does it cost". I think it might be my last look at me type car. Cant pick my nose because it might go viral
I think a 996tt and supra are more or less comparable cars. It shows how the supra was a bit ahead of its time One counter point though. Remember that the supra nationals or whatever they are called is in houston. I was at a local track day when 100 supras showed up. I was working a corner wo I watched a lot of the action. I recall a 996 gt2 and a supra chasing eachother for a whole session. They both apeared to be decent but not great drivers. They seemed neck and neck on the straights. After the session I enquired to the drivers: the gt2 was bone stock, and the supra driver claimed 700-800 hp as he had the boost turned down for the track. Anyways sometimes those german horses are quite strong, and cars with impressive dynos cant really use the powerband

I've honestly never seen a MkIV Supra on a road course.
