I always thought she was pretty funny in my opinion the female version of Don Rickles. And was a trendsetter when no women were doing stand up. RIP........

sad day. my first real exposure to her was during her fill in engagements on the tonight show....she had big shoes to fill but always got it done. I thought she had a unique brand of humor but she was from the school of stand up. they all had a special talent and a mutual admiration. I always thought she was over the top but one of the good ones.

The Tonight Show - Johnny Carson.
Apparently, Carson went to bat big time for JR to be the new host(ess)...pulling some big strings. It would have eventuated except that JR swung a deal behind Carson's back (withheld from him) for a talk show of her own. When Carson found out, he was extremely offended. He was known for being loyal to those he respected. JR was never invited to host the show again - and never appeared even as a guest. Only to appear recently as a guest. . I had heard many years ago that she had a reputation for being a little stinker. . RIP!
