I'm a juke-joint blues junkie at heart. Not much of a professor on the subject, I lean towards Texas and Chicago Blues but I like it all. Spent the day with Robben Ford last month in one of his Master classes in Ojai. Whew! Now to apply what I have learned...
Keep the old school blues alive my friends.

I love it all, too... after a while, blues just gets so deep in your bones, it owns you.
Love me some Little Whitt and Big Bo... fond memories of seeing them at one of the earliest of our town's blues festivals... with my oldest son... standing in the rain in ponchos most of the day and half the night. Saw Eddie Shaw & the Wolfgang and about four other bands that day, but these Alabama boys were the most memorable for us. We still have their CD we bought that day...

Big Fan of Robert Johnson and Leadbelly. To me it is the purity of the music/sound, so soulful.
I've got a Pandora Delta Blues station streaming to my work computer. People walk into my office and always stop to listen. Just my way of spreading the word so to speak. Carry on.

Didn't Gogar tour with James "Honeyboy" Edwards for a bit? I think he has us all beat...

Lots of talk in the inner circles about RL Burnside's style back when I played acoustic (not good enough to make $$$, however - only self-entertainment).
As I recall, it was talk about his way of "slapping" - in his upstroke as well as down stroke. I believe he's using "open G tuning" (Spanish tuning) in this video. E, A, D, G, B, E = "Elephants and donkeys grow big ears." . ~~~~~~~~~ . ~~~~~~~~~ . You've got to listen to Juke Joint Heaven's beautiful electric verson of Old Black Mattie. . Note: I modeled my finger-pickin' style after buying a Mississippi John Hurt album 100 years ago. Then I understood and began to flirt with John Fahey's style - also Leo Kottke. I said "flirt" ...only got close. Love the Delta Blues!!! . ~~~~~~~~~~

Muddy Waters chess box is a treasure.
Also Alvin Youngblood Hart, from the newer generation. North Mississippi All-Stars. Some live stuff with R.L. and them out there that is outstanding. |
