'Looks like this thread has perhaps run its course, so I'll post one of my favorite guitarist and my favorite tune of his.
Sandy Bull (February 25, 1941 – April 11, 2001) -- a very accomplished musician you have very likely never heard of. Blending Eastern, gospel, folk, and blues styles. This tune, "Gospel Tune," an original done very well in the Pop Staples, tremolo-laden style. Not heavy blues, so much but totally solo fingering, complete with heavy vibrato from his Fender Stratocaster & foot cymbal. You'll recognize "I got a woman" in there. . Hang in there and Enjoy! . BTW, he played two guitars on Chuck Berry's " Memphis, Tennessee." . Correction: That is, his own version of Memphis, Tennessee. . ~~~~~~~~~ .

OK boys, you want some early raw delta blues...?
. ~~~~~~ . Hang on for 10:00 minutes - his piano style... . ~~~~~~~~ . I'm guessing that's a screwdriver old Booker uses as a slide in #2...not uncommon in those days. . . ~~~~~~~~~~ . . ~~~~~~~ . http://justasong2.blogspot.com/2009/10/devil-got-my-woman.html . ~~~~~~~ .

I saw Brownie McGhee with Sonny Terry twice 20 - 30 yrs. ago when they came through the SF Bay Area twice in 5 yrs.
Man, this guy had/has rhythm to the max. And he would slap his foot so hard on the floor as a percussion - just lovely. Sonny was blind and Brownie would assist him on/off the stage and onto his chair in such an affectionate manner. . Also, check out his face - you just love him immediately, eh? You want to go for a walk with him & his "dog". . ~~~~~~~ .

First real blues I ever really listened to was "The Texas Cannonball" Freddy King.
Still love him to this day. Drive through his birthplace often, Gilmer Texas on my way to Shreveport. RL and Elmore James are two other big faves. Also another Texas product, Bugs Henderson, from over my way, Tyler. Great thread, Thanks mucho! Carter |

My new favorite, Don, Gospel Tune. Thanks for that, and thank you to all of you who have made this a very enjoyable thread! I'm a blues girl at heart.
