Jeff, the color, and cut are going to be way more important than any flaws over time. Flaws reduce resale but if you are selling a diamond you bought for a lady, then you have other concerns. The color and cut will make it look the best over time.

Nice Ice would send you the loose stone, along with a scope to actually view the "hearts and arrows" patterns. Bryan Gavin is here in Houston, just off US-59 near Sharpstown.

Diamonds. The biggest scam ever perpetrated.
Playing on the vanity and insecurity of women to convince men they have to pay a fortune for tiny worthless rocks. In my entire life I have paid less than $400 for non-industrial diamonds and I am ashamed I spent that much. Quote:

I go to a trusted jeweler on the Bowery in Manhattan, my father in law worked for them for years I got my wife's engagement ring there and my son just bought one last year as well. They can escort you to the 47th St diamond wholesaler if the stone that you is not in his stock.s . Sorry that you are nowhere close to NYC. I know a guy.
Clarity, color and cut, caret last.

My wife didn't want a diamond. And that's what she got, a nice ruby.

Buy the stone separate from the setting. I went with a traditional cut rock...no idea on dimensions but it was different from the new cuts. .95 stone with great clarity. I paid $3k for it alone in the early '90's . History is what I went for. It's all a scam anyway.

Thanks for all the replies/advice/contact guys. Greatly appreciated! Not my first stone purchase but want to make sure I deal with core value type folks.
Sammy, I understand your thoughts. Cheers

Tell your wife that and see what she has to say. Women like romance, this comment isn't very romantic.
Diamonds are more about a statement of value for the person you're buying it for. That being said some Women won't have you buy them a diamond for principle reasons but not many have those principles so strong they won't let you buy them a big expensive rock. And some just don't have the means to buy one big enough for the love they may have for the other but there is always a promise of a bigger one when they can. Is it a brilliant marketing scheme? It works. Did it target Women? They seem to like them.

I bought my ex wife a diamond ring that was not cheap. It had a classic cut in a simple setting that IMO looked great. When we separated she sold it in a second hand store and guess what. She got next to nothing for it and she turned around and used that to put me down to our children. "See, I told you your father is useless. He couldn't even buy me a decent ring" At this stage in my life I doubt I'd ever buy another diamond ring for any woman. I'm not saying never but she would have to be "Worth the Rock!"

They really aren't all that rare. Carbon is an immensely abundant element that when combined with heat and pressure is formed into a diamond. Under even just slightly less than ideal conditions and you would be looking at pencil graphite.
Regardless, they are still special. I am off the notion that the stone picks you. There are just so many different variables when picking a stone and thats even if you are just shopping for a diamond. The spectrum of minerals that are gem quality is staggering! Go with the one that you like. Sure, the diamond will most likely cost you more $ per carat... But so be it. Life is too short to worry that much. PS. Check out Kunzite and Alexandrite. Both beautiful, relatively uncommon gem stones.

I buy diamonds off the street. People are buying certified stones, for reatail. Then expect To get that back.
That's retarded thinking. Only way youll get what you paid is if your upgrading to more valuable stones. Stones cost money to get certified. They cost to be repaired if needed. I'll buy a nice carrat stone for a grand. Pawn shops buy the same stone for $500. I send it to be certified($400) then I market it($?) then I sit on it for a few months maybe less. And sell it for $3000. That doesn't really give me much $ to play with. It's not a scam it's retail. And when I buy your ring for $600 just be happy you didn't have to do all the legwork to sell it. It's sad when someone fails to negotiate a good deal then Blames someone else for the garbage deal they accepted. Especially bad when she used it against kids Parant That is a real shame. I'm sorry to read that. You have my sympathy. |
