THIS... I just don't get it. The old guy looked feeble when he took his shirt off and he must have been humiliated. Was that really necessary?

I hope this costs the cops a lot of money $$$$$$

I haven't watched the video yet, but were the WA State Patrol officers? Out of everywhere I've lived in the US those are some of the ones that I fear the worst even with the cruise set at exactly the speed limit.

What if the old man knew his rights, and flatly refused to take his shirt off and go down on his knees while he was trying to explain the situation ? He would have been pummeled to within an inch of his life while his poor wife was restrained watching the whole thing.

Most cops are on a power trip and have mental issues, my BIL for example has little man syndrome, and is bonafied hoarder in his house, who has about 500 guns with the ammo to match.

In each and every instance the officer has been an absolute freaking jack ass. It's never come to what is shown in the video, but it's come awfully close. Amazingly, even politely presenting the RCW rarely serves to diffuse the situation and calm them down; it actually serves to escalate tensions, if you can believe that. Their egos apparently cannot accept the fact that they were mistaken, and a mere citizen is cognizant of both the applicable law and their rights.

And LEO's still have not grasped the fact that normal honest citizens have lost all respect for them. Most today are no more than childish, ego driven thugs who could not get a real job, leading all professions in wife beating, alcoholism, sociopathic behaviors, and other such charming traits. It's high time we start treating them like the lowlifes they are, and quit allowing them to "investigate" one another's bad behavior. It's time for citizens review boards that have full authority to dole out the discipline for these children, and well past time they are placed under adult supervision. No more free passes when they wantonly abuse citizens - hold them liable; hold them to this mythical "higher standard" that they are so happy to claim.
Jeff- I hear you loud and clear. However, I know some really terrific LEO's, and some who've left the career. It is a different day and age but get to know a few and have them talk shop,.... about co-workers and the daily task is an eyeopener.

They appeared to be Nevada (Las Vegas).

This is ridiculous! It seems the police across the nation have lost it.
Now a homless guy gets shot .... SMH

I know there are great police out there but geez there's way too many mistakes happening. And the public is paying the price. Sometimes the ultimate price.

I realize I painted with a rather broad brush. I have several friends and family who are ex-LEO, and all are wonderful, upstanding people. It seems, however, that their time has come and gone.

I also "grew up" hunting out of a camp that assembled every year wherein myself and my buddy were the only two non-LEO in the whole camp. The rest were all cops, as was my buddy's older brother (that's how we got in). The stories these guys would tell around the campfire, once the booze loosened them up a bit, were truly hair-raising. Not from the perspective of acts of daring-do or anything, but more along the lines of how they managed to beat the hell out of people and get away with it. Never fear, though - they all "deserved it".

All I ask, really, is that police are actually held to the standard they claim. Or at least to the standards of licensed professionals. Hold them personally accountable and liable for their misdeeds. You know, like doctors, nurses, lawyers, engineers, and everyone else. Eliminate their self investigation, and place citizen review boards over them, ensuring those boards have some real authority.

Lastly, maybe it's time to review how we as a society utilize and deploy law enforcement. Maybe have them stay at the station until we call them; do firemen drive around looking for fires? Do ambulances drive around looking for injured people? Are cops driving around looking for crime really finding any, or are they making their own trouble in far more cases than not? When your job is to go out and "find" criminals, maybe too many of us start to look like one. Too many bored cops driving around just looking for something to do. Maybe we should have them stop doing that.

I was coming over the cascade Highway with " collector Plate " on the p Car.
Same story.
Several years ago.
He did not understand the no show in the computer. I did explain he might have to call Olympia, but all is OK.
He was a little Huffy but it did not turn out like the OP deal.
He had some common sense in his head.
Anytime we cross arrogance with ignorance it is a bad recipe .
I think somehow the test they use to examine their personalities as to be a good cop has failed in the recent years .

I went through the same thing several years ago with a VW bus and "Historical Vehicle" plates. I got to sit on the CHP patrol car for about 15 minutes while he figured it out. Then I got cited for "no brake lights" on my 1956 bus with a center brakelight engine lid.

I just wonder what it will take to start a real citizen review board for the Police at the state level. I guess that will happen when Congress all gets together to work for the best interest of the USA and not their own personal power and wealth.

But it demonstrates the need for some kind of very-independent citizen review board.
The officers-on-the-scene speak for city council and policy.
A bit more than indirectly, legally speaking.

Please try to get the analogy correct if you choose to go down this path....otherwise you look very rigid.
The biggest take away from this is that these folks did exactly what the cops said, and they didn't get shot and killed. It all got sorted out later. The cops are going to be very embarrassed in the end. But during the stop everything was amped up. The cops were reacting to some perceived threat, based on bogus information they had. If the gentleman had not complied, had argued, struggled, behaved in any way aggressively, there is a good chance this would have ended badly. Look at him tugging on his waistband to untuck his shirt, the cop screaming to stop, and him raising his hands to pull it off over his head. You can hear the panic in the cop's voice. That innocent old white male was a twitch of a finger from being shot right there. Instead he did exactly what he needed to do in that situation, no matter how unjust it seemed to him at the time.

Correct behavior, correct analogy.

There was nothing correct about that stop.
Unless you like Nazi Germany crap.
Nothing.
A 1/2 a brain would recognize the problem.

They may have acted in a way that prevented further escalation, but it is total BS that they had to. These cops should be banned from being security guards, they are total cowards. If you are going to wet your pants facing a geriatric old man on a suspected car theft, you are not fit to be a cop. These guys are totaly losers, big bad cops terrified of an old man and his wife....over what they thought was a stolen car. Even if the car had been stolen they behaved totally inappropriately....just a huge demonstration of the "us vs them" mentality that has affected modern police forces the world over....and their buddies in blue circle round and defend their actions....
This is beyond a mistake, they need to put the judgement back in modern police work....

Did you read the post above? I think it's pretty clear that what the poster is saying, is that the old guy complied with the cops requests, and that was the correct behavior. It was a comment about the folks that don't comply and argue with the cops and end up with the situation going very wrong. Yes, the cops appear to have made several huge mistakes in this situation, but at least the old couple did what they needed to do and it didn't go worse.
