Well that was an exciting night. My parents house in the area of Gessner and Westhiemer had some water in one of the rooms. They have been there over 50 years and have never been flooded before. That includes major hurricanes and other rain events. Estimates of 11 inches in about 4 hours. Ripping out the carpet later today.

Yuck, flood stink carpet.

They did not get flooded in June 2001? That one was pretty bad.

Lots of photos from my friends

Allen Parkway (river)

I-45 at Main Street, looking south towards downtown. The top photo is from last night (car's lights still on). Bottom is from this morning, after the I-45 river receded a little bit.

I-45 at main looking north (now a river)

A couple of screen grabs from a helicopter holding position just above Main Street & I-45.

Close up of the I-45 North Ramp

The same picture as the 1st one, from 2001 - Tropical Storm Allison. Note the Bayou is higher, but I-45 wasn't as much of a river.

Satellite view of the same area - Note the width of the bayou is normally only about 15 feet wide, and a few feet deep. (view is reversed, North- vs South)

These are the "24 hour" rainfall totals. But...the storm only lasted about 2 hours...

Tropical Storm Allison dropped more water ~ 20-22 inches, but over 24 hours, with a max rate of 3"/hr. The Storm yesterday peaked at 5"/hr.

Estimate at my house ~ 7"

No, that's Marshall Ford and the marina there, looking down from the Lutheran Churchyard. Above it on RM620. The weather news cruiser from one of the local TV stations was just leaving as I arrived.

Hmm, looked closer.

So that's Hughs Park Road right there between you and Ford Marina.
