Saved to Bookmarks, thanks. I'm looking at installing maybe 8 or 10 outdoor speakers and maybe half that number of indoor. I'm going to talk to the audio designer next week. The key to me is that I need to listen to the actual speaker with the mixer before I buy. They're brining passive 10" ADS and a K10 active speaker with a QSC amp.

Shaun, I don't rate the new JBL as quality at all. All of my friends who do pro sound have sold their JBL concert sound active speakers for lighter, throw away stuff for some reason. You might find some good stuff on CL. Try SearchTempest: Search all of Craigslist nationwide & more

oooo...Cornwalls. I worked for United Van Lines during college and we moved a guy once who let us pack up everything in the house except his Cornwalls. They rode with him in his car.

A lot of great suggestions here, thank you all! Researching each one is interesting to see what other people's experience has been.

A very big thank you to froggert for saving this Dahlquists for me until I could get down to him. They sound great and fill the main work room very well.

Thank you Roger!

I have saved my originally purchased JBL4311's (1974 I think) and would love to find a specialist who could put new crossovers in them. The cabinets need refinishing too but I'll do that. They're still some of most natural sounding speakers I've ever heard.

Wish I had saved the Revox, the Nakamichi and the Thorens....and that 944S2 for that matter.

I love 4311s! Had a set I picked up from a garage sale for $50. Just didn't have a good spot for them so after several years of shuffling them around the house, I sold them for 10X what I paid.

You can most likely easily refresh the crossovers yourself, just source new caps of like values and solder them in.

I knew those Altec VOT well. They traded smooth accuracy for astounding dynamics and 125 db SPL. Not a bad choice if rock music or Wagner is your thing.

Its a personal choice thing, so dont take this the wrong way: My dad has a set of VOT altecs since new. Compared to a nice set of modern speakers they sound terrible to me. No real bass and no midrange smoothness, and harsh highs.

I see those things are going for a couple K on ebay, I might tell my dad to sell his.

Then again old stuff is cool. The last Subaru sti econobox I had was faster and "better" than my 930 in every objective way.

Like I said, they're not accurate, but they serve their purpose in the den where I play guitar. I have a '68 Fender Showman with 15" JBL's that they have to keep up with! They sound damn good when I want to play loud.

My living room system uses Vandersteen 2Ci's. Of course, those are much easier on the ears.

I have Vandersteen 2Cs in my garage powered by some Adcom gear. I bought them new back around 1980. I had to refoam some drivers but they still sound great. Vandersteen still supports them.

I've got a set of 2cs as well, though got mine new in 2010. They do sound pretty damn good.

Hey Jeff, what are you driving them with?

I am listening to Pandora on a Dynaco ST35 through some KLH 6s right now...old school sound.

Necro bump. My son is into vinyl. His birthday is near and he wanted a bluetooth speaker for his budget turntable. I couldn't make sense of it because the turntable isn't portable. So, I bought a pair of used older ProAc Tablette 50 speakers on eBay. They show up and are in almost new condition with no nicks or stains--just a bit dusty. They sound a bit "bright" and way better when run with a subwoofer. So, now to find a smallish sub and used receiver or amp. No way I could justify buying any of this stuff new.

Being mostly broke my entire life, I never had any sort of stereo system worth a damn. So I scratched the itch in the last year and did a nostalgia build with a honkin huge adcom amp (200 wpc), a NAD pre-amp, and some Thiel CS2.0's. Nothing amazing. But it doesn't suck either.

My house got stuck by lightening last week and my old powered sub that I now use in the garage system got smoked (the internal amp only) and it blew me away to rationalize that it was roughly 30years old! It was a black walnut Klipsch SP15 series II. That thing was nuts, one active and one passive 15" powered by an internal 250Watt amp. Doesn't sound like that much these days but it got me in a lot of trouble as a 24 year old new home owner
