Salt Lake city to Las vegas by bike
Thinking about renting a bike (Motorcycle) in SLC and riding to LV
Anyone done it? Would want to ride on state roads not interstates and take 2-3 days Anyone know a good route? Probably do it in late Sept

I doubt you can do a one-way rental like that. I rented a bike in Vegas once for a day and it was not cheap, but it was an amazing ride through Valley of Fire. I took all back roads once from Moab to Cedar City and there were a few times I thought I was gonna end up walking for gas. One station I came across was unmanned, but the pumps were on and took credit cards. I did end up out of gas near Death Valley once, having gone 160 miles without seeing an open gas station. I walked into a trailer park and bought a 5 gallon jug for $40 and was happy to pay it.

I have only driven these routes. A few times.
Cedar City to Panaca then to Caliente. Caliente is actually a really nice little town. I have stayed there a few times. Depending on how you feel, take 317 south to 93. Or stay on 93 out of Caliente. The highway is great and the scenery spectacular. If you are really feeling sporty, take 93 out of Caliente and then turn off and head south for Delamar Dry Lake. You can get definitive direction in Caliente at the Ranger Station. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delamar_Dry_Lake ![]() The road are hard packed dirt. Check with the rangers on road conditions. There is another really neat dirt road headed west out of Delamar to Alamo. I have also stayed there a few nights. I have done all our UAV testing at Delemar Lake. The Lake is under the Nellis MOA and there are no restriction or frequency issues. We drove RV's to the site so, road conditions permitting, it is a really neat side trip. Have fun!

If you are looking for dirt, Paul knows far more than I about the area. If nice paved roads are what you want, I'm in Montrose, CO now and was across some of this area yesterday:
Option from SLC: Go east on either 190 or 92, (both good). 190 turns into 152 and both return to Provo area via 189. You will be up in ski country near Park City, Heber City and Sundance. From Provo, I-15 to Spanish Fork and east on Hwy 6. Then south on 96 to Scofield, then 31 to Hunginton. South on Hwy 10 across I-70 where it turns into Hwy 72 to Loa. Then Hwy 24 to Torrey, then south on Hwy 12 (Devils Backbone) to Esclante (watch for cattle, open range). Do Bryce Canyon, then Zion. Then I-15 again into Nevada and south on Hwy 169 along Lake Mead. That turn into 167, then rt on 147 which is Lake Mead Blvd into Vegas..... Just one option, there are others....Enjoy....

When my wife was pregnant with our first child, we spent a week trying to get lost in Utah and Colorado. The only dirt on the route I suggested is the turn off to Delamar. It is approx 12 miles along a power line road that is in really good shape. The route out of Delamar to Alamo is the same, but very twisty...neat small canyons. About 6 miles or so. I could be wrong ![]() Caliente depending on the route, is 3 hours from Vegas. We rented some ATVs in Caliente during the last test period and, since one of the BLM guys at the Caliente Field Office was a UAS guy and a former helo pilot I had become friends with on a prior trip, he took us to a number of abandoned mines, etc. in the area. Dan, you really cannot go wrong. Enjoy.
