More plausible that he went to one of the many doctors that were more than willing to write a letter to the draft board, describing one of the many "ailments" that could not be detected in a routine physical.
He probably never even read or saw the letter. Do bone spurs heal on their own ? Face it…just another Trump fairy tale. |

![]() As an Air Force pilot I crack up at this one. The one glaring thing is his chin strap is not fastened. Clearly a looky-pointy-talky photo-op with the F-102 qualified Lieutenant on the boarding ladder showing the Bush kid what switches do what and making sure W doesn't pull the ejection seat pin out while he's sitting there getting his picture taken. But at least W had the 'guts' to at least sign up and put the uniform on. Clinton didn't have the connections so he hid out at Oxford. Oh, and Texas Senator Lloyd Bentsen's kid was also put into the same Texas ANG unit as Dubya to get out of going to 'nam.

But let's get serious, no way is a local draft board going to let their star football player have to go to the army instead of the NFL..

Cassius Clay (that was in fact his legal name before he became a Muslim) couldn't have gone for a medical exemption because then he would be declared unfit to fight. It was about keeping himself safe and ensuring he could come back out to fight and make money. Even if you disagree with his motives. The bottom line is he was NOT HEROIC or brave.
![]() Clay's "bravery in standing up to war" is akin to a bank robber's bravery in standing up against poverty!

I think he simply didn't want to serve. For whatever reason he had better things to do and he used his religion as an excuse. He made it sound all political and such but IMO the reality was once he said no he kept adding reasons. He should not have done that. Even Elvis served!

I have never seen an AF pilot pose for a photo with a mask or chin strap on...in fact, most don't even have on a helmet whatsoever. Is that common now? The Deuce was a darned good ...and capable aircraft...and Bush was reportedly a pretty good pilot. Why did you choose the photoshopped picture?
