Maybe they are afraid to say something.

We had a case where a cop shot a teenager armed with a knife in bus posing no immediate threat 3 times and then shots another 6 times with half a dozen cop watching him.

The victim displayed poor judgement in moving away from the officers even with his hands up and in not realizing how amped up they were.. The cops also displayed poor judgement by letting the situation get out of hand and negligence in not trying to assist the guy after he was shot.

So the question is why did the cops see this guy as a threat? What was said that caused them to escalate and why did the guy walk away and reach into his car. Then why didn't the one officer have the presence of mind not to fire after the guy was tazed.

Was he tazed while his hands were still up?

Then one arm dropped afterwards...then they opened fire?

Wow...very "tactical"....

Why is his car in the middle of the road? He is a big enough guy if the engine stalled he could steer it to the shoulder.

I wonder of the female officer confused her firearm with her taser.

Why don't they show the whole dash cam video? Not saying this is a Rodney King thing where they don't show his violence first. Just a lot of odd stuff here.

Agree^^.

A lot is unknown due to lack of audio and also not knowing what the officers had heard of the situation before arrival on the scene. Video alone lays partial blame on both the victim and the police, simply due to the actions of each.

My understanding after viewing the clip is he was tasered after his arms had dropped and he was touching/reaching for his car door. The overhead video seems to confirm that but there is no audio. Simply from actions, his arms are down, he's standing by his door, then he is dropped to the ground--either by taser, gunshot, or both in sequence.

Unlikely (though not impossible) there was confusion between taser and pistol as she had her weapon drawn, apparently, from the moment she stepped from her vehicle. We don't see the whole dash cam video because the first arrival, the female officer, did not turn on her dash cam. The ground video we see comes from the second car to arrive on the scene and the action had already begun.

If you can't tell the difference between them, or get them confused, you need to be doing burgers and not traffic stops.

No amount of money is going to bring this father of four back and we're frequently seeing more of these INCOMPETENT POLICE PROTECTED BY THE UNION. Imagine nationwide the daily occurances by incompetent and or intentional malicious cops, not necessarily and to this degree, but its pretty bad.

Bigger problem is nothing much if anything has been done. These cops are all protected or get a little slap on the wrist and have to do the dreaded 'desk job' for a few weeks. Its a disgrace.

At this juncture, I'd say shutter the entire PD and pay the surviving family $1B. Think that'll catch their attention?

The problem with that is that it's really the taxpayers paying the $1B. The department has zero skin in the game. Instead, come up with a scheme where payouts for such malfeasance come out of the collective officer's salaries and pension accounts. That might make them take notice.

Think about this for a moment.

Firstly, the video we see is in fact a release by the PD. Why on earth would they not show all of it, from the cop car following to post action? If they believe the short clip released is sufficient, thats the worst public relations they could deliver. Thats bad enough but what are they hiding?

Also, there was an incident in Chicago with many, many cop car cams including vest cams. However the vids were not completely released or only abbreviated.

In no way making the victim / perp innocent and clearly was causing danger.

Someone later posted the full versions that were shocking. Cops acting like hooligans, high fiving, un-professional comments and talk.

I only asked because it has happened before. Don't remember the names but the guy was down and the officer on top of him discharged his weapon thinking it was his taser.

Let the taxpayers bite it and see how fast those in office are OUT.

Chicago is one to observe. Time after time, the replacement top / chief's have yet to correct the dire situation. I'm amazed it continues to worsen. Until a massive sum is paid out to a victims family and the union admits and agrees to no longer protect cops of this lacking professionalism or skill sets, nothing will change.

As for police compensation whether low or high, they should be expected to be professional and have stellar skills and judgment at all times. No excuse - they have the highest responsibility in carrying a gun and deciding when to use it.

This is why you don't let the suspect back to the car.

Some of you won't dip into parf but I posted this there as well. I suppose according to the police union, the judgment to use a firearm is not too important.

I think they still are the good guys. We need to keep things in perspective.

The Washington Post, hardly a conservative shill for cops, has begun an extensive review of cop shootings, and I think their #'s are skewed high a bit, but here goes:

As of 9/20/16:
- there have been 697 fatal shooting by police

They also claim for 2015:
- there were 990 fatal cop involved shootings
- in 782 of those instances the victim was in possession of a deadly weapon (79%)
- 258 of the victims were black (26.1%)
- 172 of the victims were hispanic (17.4%)
- 948 were male (95.75%)

When the WaPo is willing to say that nearly 80% were in possession of a deadly weapon, I tend to believe what we are seeing and hearing in the broadcast media are the exceptions - not the rule.

Again, I still think they're the good guys. I give them the benefit of the doubt.

Are there any bad apples - of course, but again they're the exception, not the rule.

I'll end with this: if you only got your news in print, assuming the stats shown above are accurate, would this rise to the level it's at today absent the politically motivated race-baiters?

My $.02 anyways.
