Jimi Hendrix
Keith Richards Mick Ronson Jimmy Page Eric Clapton Slash Eddie Van Halen Brian May Angus Young Mark Knophler Just my AM radio list. I should not even have Hendrix on the list because I have not listened enough to appreciate him fairly. Probably can replace with David Gilmour.

Roy Clark!
I know this list is mostly rock and blues but that guy can pick up anything with strings and burn the place down!

In no particular order...
Robben Ford Eric Clapton Kenny Vaughan Danny Gatton Freddie King...as well as the the other two...Freddie's my favorite but I think Albert is probably the single most influential guitar player there is. Redd Volkaert David Gilmour Charlie Batty Mike Campbell Tab Benoit In no way is this a complete list or based on who's the best.

Was a strong contender for my list. The first time I saw him live the room was silent.

I don't think anyone thinks that Niel Young or Jerry Garcia were the best players, but they certainly had their moments. Kieth Urban is a remarkable guitar player, a well kept secret to many.

If I can add an eleventh to my list it would be Robert Cray... no, wait, Nancy Wilson... no, wait, Vito Bratta... no, wait, Mike McCready (Yellow Ledbetter... make me fries)
![]() Too many greats to whittle down to just ten. You think your list is complete and then you remember someone else.

These are not necessarily the hottest, most exquisite technique, highest technical ability, just the favorites to listen to. I appreciate Guthrie, Steve Vai, Malmsteen, and other tech savants for their high level of fretboard skill but I rarely sit down and listen to a whole CD of their work. These guys are just often way too busy for me. I could listen to D. Gilmour for a week.
