Yep. She was part of the go-to upper-tier session team that supported scads of big names. Glen Campbell was in that group.

If I remember the documentary correctly, she modified the bass riff in "The Beat Goes On" to transform it into a massive hook.

Just my AM radio list. I should not even have Hendrix on the list because I have not listened enough to appreciate him fairly. Probably can replace with David Gilmour.

Roy Clark!

I know this list is mostly rock and blues but that guy can pick up anything with strings and burn the place down!

Fwiw....Duane was in the first post, and I probably have everything he ever recorded (released) along with Robert Johnson too. Stills is fantastic, but not on MY TEN FAVORITES LIST. Chuck...mentioned him too, but ditto...

There are hundreds of worthy guitarists to be mentioned...

BUT that's not what this thread is about

List ten of yours (who ya gonna leave out is the hard part imo)!!!
Why it gotta be hard?

In no particular order...

Robben Ford
Eric Clapton
Kenny Vaughan
Danny Gatton
Freddie King...as well as the the other two...Freddie's my favorite but I think Albert is probably the single most influential guitar player there is.
Redd Volkaert
David Gilmour
Charlie Batty
Mike Campbell
Tab Benoit

In no way is this a complete list or based on who's the best.

Where's Joe Pass (best ever to grace this planet)?

And the always great Ronnie Earl.

And let me toss in Glen Campbell, famous as a pop/country singer but given a chance he could rip up a fret board.

I don't think Chet Atkins has been mentioned either.
Or John Fahey
Jeff Healey
Wes Montgomery
Paul Simon

(been flipping through my record collection)

Was a strong contender for my list. The first time I saw him live the room was silent.

I don't think anyone thinks that Niel Young or Jerry Garcia were the best players, but they certainly had their moments. Kieth Urban is a remarkable guitar player, a well kept secret to many.

Joe Walsh--already mentioned, can't believe I didn't list him originally

I will add:

Billy Squier

If I can add an eleventh to my list it would be Robert Cray... no, wait, Nancy Wilson... no, wait, Vito Bratta... no, wait, Mike McCready (Yellow Ledbetter... make me fries)

Too many greats to whittle down to just ten. You think your list is complete and then you remember someone else.

Ive never heard of Ronnie, so I checked him out. I hear (very nice) pentatonic blues noodles. So many, many great names in this thread - but in the opinion of many- the guitarists guitarists guitarist has been, for the last decade, Guthrie Govan.

would agree but who's playing moves you most? Like Al Di Meola a lot but not nearly in my top ten.... Bruce, Mike Ness, clearly not the most tech guys around but strike the chords better for me

... another unmentioned Joe f'in Perry, pre Desmond Child song days..

Stay focused on the thread title Stu: "10 of my favorite guitarists"

These are not necessarily the hottest, most exquisite technique, highest technical ability, just the favorites to listen to. I appreciate Guthrie, Steve Vai, Malmsteen, and other tech savants for their high level of fretboard skill but I rarely sit down and listen to a whole CD of their work. These guys are just often way too busy for me. I could listen to D. Gilmour for a week.
